FCM to Host Election TweetChat

Prince George, B.C. – Young people with an interest in the upcoming federal election are invited to take part in a TweetChat tomorrow morning.frizzell

It will be hosted by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and will include the participation of Prince George city councillor and member of the FCM board of directors Garth Frizzell.

“This is our second annual,” says Frizzell. “We have a number of different questions that we pose out on the web and try to get some feedback from youth on what they’re thoughts are on the federal election and how it connects to municipal issues.”

And if the first Tweetchat is any indication, he’s expecting a lot of interest.

“Last year, the only hashtag that outpolled us during that TweetChat was (boy band) One Direction. So a lot of dialogue back and forth.”

Frizzell expects the topics of conversation to range “from municipal infrastructure and what the youth take is on that discussion to potentially the environment, transportation, the internet and maybe even (Bill) C-51.”

He expects federal parties of all stripes will be paying attention.

“I expect the parties will be involved and following this closely,” says Frizzell. We’ve been raising the profile of municipal issues in the federal election. In fact three of the four major party leaders have committed to holding a leaders debate (with PM Stephen Harper the lone holdout).”

He says the TweetChat starts at 10 am Pacific Time and notes anyone with a Twitter account can participate using the hashtag #FCMChat.
