Prince George, B.C. – Sheldon Clare made it official this morning at the College of New Caledonia.

The CNC instructor and National Firearms Association president announced his candidacy as an independent in the Cariboo-Prince George riding.

“I’m not fooling around here, people say you’re a vote splitter but that’s not the case,” said Clare. “The only splitting of votes will be if anyone decides not to vote for me. I’m going to take votes away from the NDP, Conservatives, Liberals and others. I’m also going to attract people who haven’t voted before.”

And though he was formerly a Reform Party member and a long time member of the Conservatives, he said the party system is “broken.”

“I’ve been dissatisfied with the party system for a long time,” said Clare. “And I don’t see any one party matching me.”

He noted there have been issues that have put him at odds with the Conservatives, including their treatment of veterans.

“I think there needs to be at least someone in an office here (Prince George) that knows the veterans files and is tasked to look after them.”

Clare also opposes the government’s anti-terror legislation, Bill C-51 and supports door-to-door mail delivery.

“I’m a hardware store conservative. I believe in fiscal responsibility but I also believe in fulfilling our obligations.”

Other declared candidates in the riding include Conservative Todd Doherty and Liberal Tracy Calogheros. The NDP will hold its nomination meeting August 24.

Sheldon can say what ever he wants, however the bottom line is, he is a Conservative, and he is splitting the vote. Its as simple as that.

His poster on the podium says **The RIGHT candidate** and that’s what he is right of centre, unless he has been turned by the left.

The NDP and Liberals will love having two Conservatives running in this riding, I can see them sitting back licking their lips, thinking about the good times ahead. Problem is most Conservatives will vote for Doherty who has the best chance to win, and who will be a good representative for this area.

I think he is a closet liberal and wants to split the conservative vote.

Oh by the way I will decide who gets my vote on the day.

If he is so passionate about being right wing, did he run for the Conservative party representative, if he did, he is a sore looser.

If he didn’t perhaps his only objective is to undermine Todd’s chances to represent the right side of the spectrum. Thus he gets no respect from me, nor my vote.

“His poster on the podium says **The RIGHT candidate**”

No, it says: THE RIGHT CANDIDATE.

He opposes Bill C-51 and the treatment of veterans. He supports door to door mail delivery and fulfilling election promises. Well, Harper obviously has had a different agenda and will not change it for the future. So it is no wonder he is ticked off. The party system is not broken, but the party is as it has become a one man show.

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, there is a pretty good possibility that it is a duck.

help send more lmaos I’m running out here

Sheldon Clare most likely could not bare the thought of running for a party that’s so detracted from the people and their issues. Harper is no longer the leader for Canada its people or principles, he is about Harper and only Harper.

This guy is a wingnut. The NRA is trying to get rid of him and was reading the NRA facebook page which has a petition going to oust him as the president. I think that with Tracey and Todd we have two candidates worth taking a look at but this guy yikes!!!

Sheldon may not be the right guy to take on the CPC at this point, however he does represent an awful lot of people like myself that were once supporters of the Progressive Conservative Party.
I always voted PC until the party was hijacked by the Reformers and through Steve the Dictator became an extreme right wing party.
Since then there have been no real viable candidates to oppose Dick Harris, so I spoiled my ballot rather than vote for that buffoon!
At least with Sheldon we have a place to park our protest vote without voting for the Socialists. Perhaps sending an independent Conservative to Ottawa would send the right kind of message to the grass roots of the CPC! It’s time to dump Stevie, and start moving a little closer to the principles of the old Progressive Conservative Party!

At least he is doing something.. Not like the rest of us who just beek off on here.

Oh my. Much Tory handwringing ensues. Hoist, meet petard. :-)

@niytehawwk…..

So you think that in 1993,1997,2000,2004,2006,2008,2011 there were no viable candidates to run agains Harris ?????

What does that say for the Liberals and NDP??

Count ’em that’s 7 elections….I think your conclusion is just a little bit off the wall.

And now you think Sheldon is the savior of the right huh????

And that’s the truth to day for some people not all that may want to vote, Harper fixed that.

So who threw the after party for his announcement… the NDP or Federal Libs?

Notsofast…the Progressive Conservative Party got hijacked by the Reformers in 2005. Prior to that I always voted for the PC candidate.
I have NEVER voted for a reform candidate, and I NEVER will!

Party System Broken, no one can dispute that.

Agreed the system is broken, if everyone across the country voted for the best candidate we could start to fix it. Regardless of what banner they are flying.

That’s what I’m going to do, look at the people running and pick the person I feel will be the best at representing all of us.

***********************************
I searched the NFA FB page and found one wing nut from South Carolina that has a leadership issue but refuses to elaborate. Perhaps he to is confusing the NFA with the NRA like you have. Found nothing in regards to any petition that you speak of.

Notsofast…the Progressive Conservative Party got hijacked by the Reformers in 2005.?????

Nytehaawk,

I think the more correct response would be that the Reformers saved the conservative seats from going Liberal…. It is profoundly possible that Cretien and the Liberals would have wiped out the PC’s in the west as well if not for the Reformers giving conservatives a place to park their votes. Their win likely saved the conservative representation in Canada until the right got back to being a family again.

Dumbfounded you are absolutely right I should have used the NFA not the NRA. If you type in sheldon clare lawsuit it will take you to the facebook page I was referring to.

So the Harper Carpers are still alive and well. Whining and sniveling that all the ills of the world are because of Harper, or the Reformers. What a bunch of crap.

For those people who spoiled their ballot, or quit voting Conservative because of the Reformers etc, I say **Who cares**. If you care to look at the results of the last seven elections you will see that your arch enemies candidates won by a huge majority.

You can complain all you want but Harris, and Hill beat the living hell out of anyone who ran against them. They won hands down, over and over again. You can try and write off 18000 voters in each riding that voted Conservative, however its a waste of time. The Conservatives KO’d the opposition every time, and I don’t see anything different happening this time around.

Take a break from your complaining and listen to Uriah Heep (Mulcair) for a while if want to get a headache from Mr (I’m so humble) Mulcair. His whining is as bad as listening to finger nail going down a blackboard.

Have a nice day.

How did a post at 7.37pm get slotted between a 12.30pm and a 1.32pm post??

Looks like the system is moving posts around willy nilly. Hmmmmm.

Sounds like the Conservatives on the board want another “Bobble Head” doll for the riding?
I would like to see someone go against the grain so we don’t have a dictator for a Prime Minister again.
I think we need to take our heads out of the sand and take a good hard look at our system of government?

some people seem to be deeply worried and already loosing it. Bad style, insults, ugly words. When you talk SHELDON CLARE you should acknowledge the 39 Canadian Brigade Certificate of Appreciation for exemplary support in establishing B Company Rocky Mountain Rangers in Prince George, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for community service, Capstone Paper for Norwich University selected as top in class out of 100 students, Royal Canadian Legion 75th Anniversary for Service, and several more honours and awards.
The people in Cariboo-Prince George should be deeply pleased that such a great man steps forward and is willing to represent this area. Sheldon Clare will have my vote and many good people will vote for him. Sheldon Clare for MP !!

Higher ranked comments are at the top. This really only makes sense if you can reply to the specific comment. Hopefully it doesn’t stay this way.

A lot of people are implying that the Party System is Broken.
From what I am seeing the Liberals have the best policy suggestions to fix this issue.

As far as I can tell, Sheldon is trying to tell us that the party system has become poisoned kool aid, just each group drinks a different colour. I know he’s not perfect, but I also know he works hard and is well respected by lots of different people with different beliefs. I’m gonna vote for him on October 19th and for the first time in a while I won’t be holding my nose!
