Prince George, B.C. – Alder Hills Golf Course in Prince George  has been hit four times in the past couple of years by someone who  has been dumping  some sort of grass killer on their greens.

In the latest incident, 14 of the 18 greens  at the Giscome Road  course have been damaged.  Course owner, Lee Sexsmith  says the  damage would be in the thousands of dollars to repair “We simply have to wait for the dead grass to rot completely, and let the chemical dissipate. Then we put down new seed and sand and keep the area well watered without causing the rest of the green to go into water stress.”

Sexsmith  says it means  the  golf course will  have  less than ideal  conditions  come next  spring  and it will have a negative impact  on the quality of play  when putting across the damaged areas because they are bumpy “and cause the ball to not roll straight on the green.”

Sexsmith says he hasn’t heard of any other golf course in the City  suffering the same kind of  attack .
The RCMP  are aware of the  attacks which fall under  the  criminal code as  mischief-damage to private property.  They are continuing to investigate.

I guess video cams on the greens.

Obviously a few people were in on it. Make it there most expensive round of golf they will ever play….

Wouldn’t laying new sod across the affected area make it nice and smooth? Perhaps too expensive?

Not a big loss in my opinion but still vandalism is vandalism

UFO skid marks on touchdown or takeoff?

Dearth, many small businesses operate on a very slim profit line! Even things that some would consider “Not a big loss” will impact the “bottom line”!

Let’s not forget that in addition to the perhaps minor costs to repair the physical damage, there is also potential longer term damage from loss of revenue if customers choose to go elsewhere because of what they perceive to be poor playing conditions on this course!

Businesses expend a great deal of energy trying to build a brand and a good reputation. If the reputation suffers due to the damaged greens, the lost revenue while trying to rebuild the reputation could be far more substantial that the actual costs to repair the physical damage!

In support of this small business, I think that I’ll try to get a tee-off time this weekend!

Someone definitely has a grudge for some reason. 4 time in the last couple of years!

Didn’t someone run 4 wheelers over the greens some time back at this course.

Sure hope they get these dudes. What is going on with people!!!
