‘Woof-Fest’ Gets Its Permits

Wednesday, August 26, 2015 @ 1:16 PM

Prince George, B.C. – The weekend  music festival  set to take place at Vivian Lake this weekend will go ahead as planned. The festival organizers were granted ‘conditional’ approval  for the event by the Board of Directors of the Regional District of Fraser Fort George  last Thursday.

The condition was that  organizers had to produce  information that confirmed RCMP satisfaction with security arrangements; BC Emergency Health Services satisfaction of the medical plan; Ness Lake Volunteer Fire Department satisfaction with the fire safety plan; and that a building permit has been issued and finalized for the proposed temporary stages.

All of that information had to be provided  to the Regional District  by Monday of this week before  the Special Events License would be issued.

The info was provided on time,  and  the organizers notified late Monday that  the license would be granted.

The  event,  which starts tomorrow,  will feature a variety of musical acts including Twisted Sister and Trooper.  The event  runs through to Monday afternoon , hopes to  draw  up to 10 thousand people, and  all proceeds will be  going to the  SPCA.

More information on the  event   can be  found on facebook

Okay, so I’m against this event because I live out that way I see way too many bad habits on Chief Lake/Ness Lake Rd from idiots tailgating, passing when unsafe – including while travelling uphill, drifting across the center lines – especially on curves – excessive speeding – north of 100 km an hour is not uncommon, drinking and driving (my friends kids this Spring took 4000 beer cans to the bottle depot from a 5 k stretch on that road) then add industrial traffic such as logging trucks and chip trucks, and RV traffic, boats – and cyclists – yes, it’s a popular cycling route.

Then someone comes up with the great idea to have 10,000 people wander down that road this weekend to raise money for dogs and cats.

And of course some of those 10,000 people will run out of supplies, and after few cool ones, decide to drive back to town to restock.

Without a heavy police presence, the above behaviors IMHO will only be exacerbated and someone will die or be injured. Based on the history of the road, police presence will be absent until said accident occurs.

So I hope my elected officials received assurance from North District RCMP to a significant patrol presence, otherwise whatever they raise for dogs and cats, ICBC will spend to fix vehicles and broken bodies – and I truly want to be wrong in this prediction – police presence or not.

hey Ski, best not do anything lest someone might do something not to your liking, curmudgeon!

I think this is great. Hopefully it becomes an annual event and draws people the same way Pemberton or Squamish do with their music events. Tourism is big for BC, and I would like PG to start trying to tap into that. We’re not just a mill town anymore

Take any given road in PG any day or time and you will see the same issues, people don’t take the driving privilege very seriously. If you choose not to participate in an activity, make it about the activity and not the drivers in this town. The reward is probably greater than the risk… just my opinion.

Okay, for the record, it’s not the event I’m against, it’s the lack of police presence on that route. To me it’s a risk/benefit analysis. Is the traffic risk worth the reward – without police presence – I don’t think so. If the cops show up in numbers, it creates a calming affect, and it’ll be fine.

ski don’t kid yourself, with an event this large there will be yellow stripes all over the place.

Lots of cars, lots of corners, lots of booze. Nope not a great idea.

Hope it’s a great event with minimal level incidents.. Have fun all that are attending.

They cut it way too close for my liking. I was set to buy tickets, when I came across a post on facebook warning ticket buyers to be aware that this is a booze free event. Some purchasers found out about this after the fact and were denied refunds. I would love to see Twisted Sister but this whole thing was/ is just too sketchy for me to buy tickets.

This should be a lulztastic goonshow. The kids throwing it have never really even thrown a music event before, and instead they try for something bigger than anything in northern BC. Ambitious, but doomed to failure. Profit will not be made, public opinion will be abysmal.

The “kids” have put on events and attended my events. Booze free is deter the idiots. Booze free means keep it concealed , keep it responsible, keep it in camp. You people have to get off the porch a little more and get out there. This event is taking all the right steps to have positive public opinion.
