Dates Set for Provincial Budget Consultation

Thursday, August 27, 2015 @ 1:08 PM

Prince George, B.C. – The annual  provincial budget consultation will hear from 15 different communities,  but   unlike the past, the  Select Standing Committee on Finance will not be coming to Prince George.  Instead, there will be a video conference  for  those wanting to appear before  the Committee.

In fact,  the furthest north the Committee will travel for an ‘in person’  hearing is Kamloops.   The communities of Prince George,

Williams Lake, Quesnel, Dawson Creek,  fort St. John,  and Fort Nelson  will all  be host to a video conference,   while Terrace will be  subject to a conference call.

The Government says the schedule has been developed  to  accommodate the  fall sitting of the Legislature, which starts September 28th.

The location for the Prince George  video conference has yet to be determined,  but it is slated for September 29th from 4 to 7 pm.

The public consultations for  Budget 2016 kick off on  September 15th,  and  interested parties  may make a written submission, send  audio or  video files, or  complete an online survey  if unable to attend one of the  public hearings.

Pointless exercise simply for show. Last year the #1 item people across the province wanted was an increase in funding for public education (k-12) and the BCLibs completely ignored that and in fact decreased funding by $52M.

Nice to see they can’t be bothered to travel north at all. Not even PG, the largest urban centre in the largest (geographical) part of the province. I’m really sick of the province disrespecting the north.

None of the Liberal **Highrollers** like to come to Prince George, and when they do, they like to fly in, in the morning, and fly out the same evening. That way they don’t have to spend the night.

I suspect that not having jet service into Prince George is also an issue. I doubt these Highrollers like to fly around in small planes with the **normal people**

I really do not understand why they travel to any of them. Do them all by videoconference and everyone will be on equal footing.

Why is Terrace a teleconference? Surely they must have a videoconference facility in town.

What I would like to know is what impact has the budget consultation had in the past. Was there any change of mind/heart with the way the budget was heading as a result? If so, what was it? After all, that is the important follow up. Without that, the whole thing is totally useless.

” …. they like to fly in, in the morning, and fly out the same evening. That way they don’t have to spend the night.”

This city rolls up the sidewalk between 8 and 9 pm. There is no reason to spend a night here when one can be back in Vancouver/Victoria to listen to some jazz and wind down.

Pretty sure you mean central B.C. Quesnel is close.

Normally when someone disrespects me I just turn the other cheek … but knowing these people we call our elected leaders ( not my vote ) they would just steal my wallet while I’m looking the other way .

Hey christy kiss my …
