Understanding the Teenage Brain
Prince George, B.C. – Ever wonder what’s going on inside your teenager’s head?
If yes, then you’ll want to attend a special presentation tomorrow night at Duchess Park Secondary.
Presented by the Prince George District Parent Advisory Council (PGDPAC), Gary Anaka is a brain-based learning facilitator in the new field of Applied Education Neuroscience.
“I’ve been to see his presentation once before, he’s a fantastic speaker and very, very educated on the teenage brain,” says PGDPAC president Sarah Holland. “Having a teenager and a tween myself, I found it exceedingly useful.”
She says to expect Anaka to shed light on the science behind the brain and how decisions are made.
“If you’re expecting teenagers to make decisions based on logic, you’re going to be sadly disappointed,” says Holland. “But if you know more about what’s happening in there then it becomes somewhat easier to adapt to life with a teenager.”
She says tickets to the event are free but going fast. For more information on how to get tickets click here.

I always have one main question when I hear or read about adults struggling to understand or cope with adolescent behaviour; Do you remember what it was like to be a teenager? Remembering your past can help a person sympathize or empathize with what you observe happening in your child’s life. It does not mean you have to condone bad habits & self absorbed behaviour but it does help to live through it ( & apologize to your parents for putting them through it). The other modern parenting trait that does no one any favours, especially the child, is trying to be your child’s friend instead of their parent.
