Prince George, B.C. – A special tree planting at Duchess Park this morning marked the successful end to a carbon reduction project in Prince George.
The “Carbon Footprint Reduction in the Prince George Business Community Project” was the result of a partnership between the Prince George Chamber of Commerce and UNBC and it’s helped one local business, JFT Secure, to become carbon neutral.
“It’s excellent,” said president Jason Thompson. “I mean when I started the company we’d always been concerned about the environment but it’s nice to have the audit and see ways that we can further reduce our carbon emissions while still growing.”
UNBC students participated by reporting on how local businesses could reduce emissions, rates of consumption and energy expenses.
It also allowed students to interact with the businesses directly to gain valuable first-hand experience in the business world.
Chamber CEO Christie Ray promised similar projects in the future.
“This type of thing is really setting the stage for some really major projects that we could do to bring industry together with our post-secondary institutions.”
UNBC president Dr. Dan Weeks added such projects are not only great for the environment, but also for his students.
“We’re going to be looking at ways to increase the opportunities for our students to get out in the community and do projects like this and other kinds of things,” he said. “I’m very big on our students having a chance to work in the community.”

maybe if the politicians quick spouting off junk, there would be less carbon in the air.
trees give of more carbon that we do.
How many trees does a business have to plant to be carbon neutral?
Oh I bet spectrum must be a million to the negative…. may be they should be selling them.
“Carbon neutral?” That’s a good chuckle.
bcracer… trees absorb carbon..
How many carbon credits did these companies buy? If they didnt purchase any than good work..if they did than its just a shell game.
So true P Val. And how come that tree in the picture has so many leaves beneath it?
Who gets those brand new spades after the photo ?
So who is the middle man making money off these credits? Are these carbon credits involved with a company invested in by Gore? Just what effect do these people think their carbon reduction will have? These are supposedly smart people so sucked in by the scam, so sad.
Seamutt the rest are people who’s job is to help companies buy and sell these credits. It’s huge money. It’s kind of along the lines of what Volkswagen did. Carbon credits falsify what the true carbon footprint is.
The entire ‘carbon credit’ is an enormous scam. You can pollute and abuse local resources to your heart’s desire, just keep buying those credits to make yourself feel all warm and fuzzy.
