Prince George, B.C. – A little two-year-old girl and her father who were murdered in Alberta earlier this month will be remembered in Quesnel tomorrow.

27-year-old Terry Blanchette’s body was found in his home in Blairmore, Alberta the morning of September 14th.  A Few hours later an Amber Alert was issued for
Hailey and Dad his daughter, Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette.  The investigation led police to take a 22-year-old man in for questioning in the case and, on the afternoon of September 15th, Hailey’s body was found in a rural area near Blairmore.

The suspect, Derek Saretzky, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths and one count of indignity to a body in relation to the girl’s death.

Hailey’s great grandmother, Brenda Dunbar, is a resident of Quesnel and she, along with a group known as Bikers Against Child Abuse, have organized a balloon release memorial in honour of the girl and her father.

Anyone wishing to show their support is asked to bring a candle, and a balloon if you’d like, to Lebourdais Park in Quesnel at 2:30 Sunday afternoon.  Family and friends will be releasing pink and white balloons at 3:30pm.

Comments

The memorial is a wonderful idea. Releasing baloons is not. Perhaps the persons organizing the memorial could do some research. Releasing baloons is an environmental nightmare, and incredibly dangerous for birds and other small creatures.
Releasing baloons is an environmentally irresponsible thing to do.
