City Launches Citizen Budget
Prince George, B.C. – There’s a new way to provide feedback on how your tax dollars are being spent.
The City of Prince George has launched a new interactive budget simulator called “Citizen Budget.”
It allows residents to use their individual property assessments to see how much they currently pay monthly for a variety of municipal services.
By using the interactive calculator, you can increase, decrease or maintain service levels in each area and immediately see what impact it has on your monthly personal tax payments.
The results will be collected over the next month for council to consider in their 2016 budget deliberations.
Council and staff will be showcasing the “Citizen Budget” during next month’sTalktober Neighbourhood Conversations.
You can access the “Citizen Budget” by clicking here.

Why not deal with the elephant in the room first? 50 million dollars a year in salaries and growing all the time. It’s not sustainable.
I’ve been beating that drum for years axman, but nobody wants to talk about that!
Why not put in a program that shows all the increases in the past 10 years, and the projected increases and costs for the next 10 years, and list where that money will be spent. With this type of information we could see what we are facing in the future in taxes, and where the money is spent, and then could make a rationale decision as to what programs, etc; should be cut or not funded.
The program suggested in the articles has no teeth, and is basically a tool to give the impression that citizens are involved in the process.
The City already has a 5 year forecast of expenditures, all they need to do is make it intelligible for the average Jane/Joe.
