Prince George, B.C. – Locals had the chance to see what will be included in the City of Prince George’s 100th Anniversary time capsule at the Bob Harkins branch of the public library this afternoon.

Time Capsule coordinator Dori Alger said her role was to try to engage the community to be involved in the process.

“We actually asked what people thought should go in the capsule, we asked what they thought Prince George would look like in a 100 years, we also asked what has changed the most in the last 100 years.”

Former city councillor and volunteer Shirley Gratton’s submission included plant seeds, a free coffee coupon from McDonald’s and some Sidney Crosby hockey cards.

So why participate?

“I think it’s very important. History is very special to all of us.”

Current councillor Jillian Merrick made a submission of her own stuffing a PWB beer can with various items including her wooden campaign buttons and photos of some “defining events” in her life which included her first date at UNBC.

“I think it’s always nice to remember there’s always been people here before us in different lives and the reality is this time capsule, when opened in another 100 years, it could be a very different world. Will we even have a city government? I don’t know.”

Following today’s showing all the contents will be placed inside a capsule and buried on Wednesday. It won’t be dug up until 2115.
