PG PACs Get Provincial Funding
Prince George, B.C. – The provincial government has divvied out $259,000 to Parent Advisory Councils (PACs) and the District Parent Advisory Committee (DPAC) in the Prince George School District.
The money goes to support student activities outside of the classroom, including field trips, sporting equipment, playground equipment and musical instruments.
“I think it’s terrific,” says Prince George DPAC president Sarah Holland. “All PACs and DPACs can apply for this money and I hope all have done so.”
Overall, nearly $11.1 million has been delivered to over 1,400 PACs and DPACs province wide for the 2015-16 school year.
Local PACs receive $20 per student, while DPACs receive a flat rate of $2,500.
The money comes through the government’s community gaming grant programs.

And how many dead beat parents lost their kids school fund gambling in these casino’s to raise these government hand out funds.
Its all great to see funding going to PAC’s, but its tainted money that comes with the appearance to some that a cancer in society is enabled and made to look good through this type of funding.
When gaming was done by the charity in question it was palatable; because bingo at the church to fund its food bank was seen more as a donation, than as contributing to a societal ill.
If we are to have casino’s breaking peoples lives, laundering illicit money, and contributing to the shrinking local pool of disposable income ($70 million plus a year for PG)… then don’t taint a good cause with these ill gotten gains and just put the money into general revenues.
Fund the good with tax dollars that don’t have to be associated with what many consider a crime, and just man up as a government to do the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing.
eagle, would you feel better about the money if the government just took it from the gambling fund, wrote a check and said it was from ICBC? same difference…it is all money the government has taken from us in one form or another, at least it is going to help kids .
and no, I am not defending gambling, part of my family was all but destroyed by it.
That would work for me BCRacer.
What does that say to kids when their field trips are sponsored by gambling? Gambling is good because it paid for their field trip?
Whats next legalized prostitution with the taxes collected going to fund sex education classes for teens?
Why does the money have to be tied to sponsorship for these kinds of things. Either the government funds it or it doesn’t. Just put the damn taxes from gambling into general revenue. Maybe set up a evil twin account and sponsor out of that if it pleases the accountants, but its just unseemly that my kids would think their after school activities are funded by dead beat dads that gamble away their own families future.
