Advance Poll Turnout Way Up
Prince George, B.C. – Canadians came out in droves this election to vote in advance polls across the country.
According to numbers released today by Elections Canada, over 3.6 million decided to vote early, a 71% increase from the roughly 2.1 million who voted in advance polls prior to the 2011 federal election.
Of those 3.6 million who voted, over 500,000 were from British Columbia.
Broken down even further, 9, 891 voted early in Cariboo-Prince George (compared to just 4,986 in 2011), while 10,878 cast a ballot in Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies (4,962 in 2011).
“Many Canadians chose to vote at advance polls in this election,” says Marc Mayrand, Canada’s chief electoral officer. “Having four polling days provided greater flexibility and convenience for voters.”

I’d like to thank all of the anxious, frothing at the mouth lefties for jamming up the advance polls with their impatience. It will make it nice and calm on election day for us sane people to go and vote in a conservative government.
Sane people voting for an insane government? Go ahead, make your day!
I went at 6:30 pm on Monday. When I arrived there was no other voter there. 3 eventually joined me.
People who know what they want based on performance have no problem putting an X down on a ballot.
I decided that in case I get run over by an F450 Super Duty Crew-cab driver before Election Day, at least my vote is in.
Of course, there is a risk that the person I voted for will get run over instead and my vote will have gone in the waste basket as will have the riding and the country. …. LMNAO

It really is time to get out and vote. Harper’s last stand of indicating the Liberals will legalize pot, safe injection sites, and brothels on every corner, leads one to ask if this guy has lost his mind and is so desperate to hang on to power he resorts to low blow attack ads. To bad for Todd as he would of had my vote but not now.
Nice to see the Blue Jays advance! Couldn’t help noticing the Tory Blue colour of their uniforms! Obviously this is an positive omen for a Conservative win!!
hg…Do not insult Jays win like that……Fords are throwing a Crack party for harper on saturday….ya should go……
CALGARY (Reuters) – Canada’s Conservative government rejected advice from its bureaucrats warning it was “inappropriate” to use a sole-source contract to hire a consultant to review the country’s Arctic drilling legislation, according to a memo obtained by Reuters.

Its all about the money, in 4 years, who ever gets in to run the Canadian government will spend and screw up so bad they wont be voted in again. This way they have to be paid a lot to be replaced. Its sad, Canadians are fighting for the person they want to make a lot of money. This very person is promiseing to fix everything. This is impossible, but yet the voter believes it yet again. Mulcare, Trudeau, Harper, and all the other want to be politicians will tell you anything it takes to get voted in. Most are lies. They call this democracy.
tliotg, seriously Dude, get some help!

“It really is time to get out and vote. Harper’s last stand of indicating the Liberals will legalize pot, safe injection sites, and brothels on every corner, leads one to ask if this guy has lost his mind and is so desperate to hang on to power he resorts to low blow attack ads.”
Tune in to CBC, they did an interview with the Liberal candidate whose riding the ads were in. In short finally after a good half hour of preamble, he was asked – yes or no – is the ad true? And he would not say yes, and he would not say no, just that they would have to consult with experts and go with what they recommend. Trudeau has already said he will implement all of the above if he gets into power, and you say Harper has lost his mind.
But on to what the article is about: Last election there were 3 advanced poll dates, this year because of the mixups they extended it to 4 advance dates. After 3 days it was 16% more voters but add on a whole extra day and that is where you get the higher percentage. But it makes good copy.
Good point Slinky. So up 16% for the first three days of a long week-end. Advance polling numbers are usually higher going into a holiday week-end.
“Harper’s last stand of indicating the Liberals will legalize pot, safe injection sites, and brothels ON EVERY CORNER”
I have no problem with the first part of the statement. If Harper’s ad says on every corner, I have a problem.
There are variations of the three issues proposed to be tackled throughout many western countries these days and in some for decades.
Of course, in a still dominant WASP country, and especially a WASP City of Prince George here will be a significant number who will object vehemently.
I think it’s a really positive sign that the early turnouts are so high. Although, it could just be election fatigue. I’m sick to death of all the back and forth nonsense and just want it to be over. I made my mind up long ago who I’m voting for in my riding. Next Monday round about this time, we’ll all know the results.
Hopefully, the turnout on election night is as good as it has been in advanced polls. It seems certain we’re heading for a minority government, which I for one am happy about. Unfortunately, it’s not too late for some last gasp dirty tricks by the conservatives. I sincerely hope Harper gets his hat handed to him by the party after this election.
“Advance polling numbers are usually higher going into a holiday week-end.”
Where do you get that info from?
Long weekends typically mean people are out of town to visit family elsewhere or family comes here from elsewhere. Thus, fewer people in their riding, and more people busy with better things to do in their riding ……
Hey guys, neat that you came for Thanksgiving sinner … not much to do in PG, so wanna come with us and watch us vote? …. :-)
Slinky: “After 3 days it was 16% more voters but add on a whole extra day and that is where you get the higher percentage.”
I could swear by the grave of my 4th grade math teacher who introduced the notion of a ratio based on a hundred units, that 16% greater votes after 3 days of a 4 day advanced voting period, measured against 3 days of previous advanced polls, is not only an increase, but also a significant increase.
On every corner …..
16% increase is not a significant increase …..
Am I seeing some strategic embellishment here ????
I don’t know where the 16% comes from, because the article says it is a 71% increase. Personally, I think that means something, but I am not quite sure just what.
The second paragraph is: “According to numbers released today by Elections Canada, over 3.6 million decided to vote early, a 71% increase from the roughly 2.1 million who voted in advance polls prior to the 2011 federal election.”
Read slinky’s post. Apparently comes from a CBC program and/or their web site which has a count after 3 days to make a fairer comparison with past years when there were not 4 days.
Conservative math. It just doesn’t add up !
I voted on Sunday afternoon, no waiting in line, took about 5 minutes at most. The extra day of advanced polling probably made the difference for the increased numbers. Also Canadians are fearful that the NDP or Liberals might just get in and came out to support the true blue. Don’t believe any polls from the Liberal Nanos group. The real poll that counts happens on October 19 where the Conservatives under PM Steven Harper will receive a landslide majority. Canadians are not that misinformed to vote Mulcair or Trudeau.
Listening to CBC radio yesterday, they held an all candidates interview for the Vancouver Granville riding. Guess who declined to participate? Yup, the CPC candidate. The conservatives are shooting themselves in the foot, LOL.
Just saw this in the Vancouver Sun:
http://www.vancouversun.com/news/metro/conservatives+noticeably+absent+from+many+candidates+debates/11438160/story.html
Looks like its a party policy across the country.
Oh, they are so going down. Can hardly wait.
Go back and read history my dear boy gopg2015
If 16% is such a huge turnout how about 34% increase in the 2011 election?
From the CBC news website dated April 28, 2011:
More than two million Canadians turned out to cast ballots in advance polls over the holiday weekend, according to Elections Canada’s preliminary estimate, a 34 per cent increase from 2008.
Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand said 2,056,001 ballots were cast during the three days of advance polls in a “higher than expected turnout,” compared to 1,528,780 advance ballots cast three years ago.
Oh, and gopg2015 – maybe check out that in 2011 it also was a “holiday weekend” in which the increase happened so I guess people do have their guests come watch them vote. Or maybe they “vouched” for them to vote?
gopg2015. Would you care for some crow???
Ps @princegeorge have you ever heard of a translator? Try to keep my posts as short as possible while still coming to the point so I did not mention the ex officer turned politician mentioned he had the ad translated for him. But I digress.
If voter turnout at a advanced poll is such an indication that people want change I do wonder what the explanation was in 2011 where they were handed a majority?
