Artisans Display Wares at UNBC

Saturday, October 24, 2015 @ 4:03 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Corridors throughout the UNBC campus in Prince George are adorned with the works of more than 80 artisans this weekend for the Artisans of the North Fair.

Normally the fair is an annual fundraiser for UNBC Athletics.   Organizer Candace Wotten says “in the past its been a fundraiser for the UNBC Timberwolves but they are doing what they do best and they’re all on the road, so this year some of the proceeds are supporting some of our student clubs on campus, primarily the Outdoor Club and the Environmental Engineering Student Association.  The remaining funds pay the costs of holding the event.”

Wotten says the wide assortment of handmade products are of high quality.  “It is a juried fair so all of the artisans have provided their work to a jury and their acceptance is based on the outcome of the jury, so yes, it’s a high-calibre event.”   She says the products for sale include “specialty food items, home décor, quilting and knitting, woodworks, clothing, beautiful jewelry, some paintings and mixed media (like) photography, so a wide selection.”

The UNBC Artisans of the North Fair runs from 10 am to 5 pm today and from 10 am till 4 pm on Sunday.  Wotten says “we are utilizing most of the main campus for the event, so its taking place all throughout our hallways in the main part of the campus.  We are offering free parking for both days of the fair, and people are welcome to come on up and wander around.  Our Tim Horton’s will be open so people can enjoy a drink.

Admission to the fair is free.
