PG in Store for Warm, Wet Winter – Environment Canada
Prince George, B.C. – It looks like Prince George residents are in store for a warm and wet winter.
And Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says El Nino is to thank.
“The mix will be in the favour of rain versus snow. That’s pretty much a given.”
He adds “the blob,” or the really warm water we’ve been getting off the coast of Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, will also factor in.
“It’s weakened a little bit but all it’s really going to do is add to the probability we’re going to be warmer throughout the winter.”
Lundquist predicts this winter’s El Nino could be almost as strong as the one British Columbians experienced back in 1997-98.
“It’ll be close, and it’s started earlier. Often with El Nino we can get cool weather at the beginning of winter, but this might not happen this year,” he says.
“November might be on the warm side as well. And it usually lasts through February. Four months of decently warm weather with the odd cold spell thrown in.”

He was wrong about last summer, he’s be wrong about this winter.
Ya, we were told it was to be a hot dry summer, other than for the first month of summer it was very wet and cooler. So expect a cold and very snowy winter.
Except for August and the last week of July, it was a very warm summer.
Best job in the world is the weatherman :) If he is right.. great..if he is wrong..not much we can do about it :)
The weather forecasters have trouble correctly forecasting the weather for tomorrow or the next day, for the next 5 months is all hot air and job justification, and can’t even be considered funny.
LOL … poor Doug.
Do you really think that Doug is the person who forecasts the weather? Doug is a spokesperson not the forcaster.
Weather is forecast by a computer program which is supported by input from meteoroligsts.
who gives a rats… as long as it doesn’t snow 14 feet
Maybe another green Christmas? Be the 9th one of it happens since I’ve lived here
hehe, So, Except for August and the last week of July summer was hot and sunny? I think summer IS usually July and August. Good one. I am assuming you are being sarcastic.
I’m just looking forward to the great plowing and sanding the city will do for the 2cnd year in a row.
As I recall, summer started in May, and carried on until September. The few cool and wet days in between were a welcome relief. Best summer ever since I’ve been in PG, IMHO.
We have had much nicer summers the last few.. Just ask any Air conditioner guys.. I had AC put in my house last summer and had to wait a few weeks due to huge increase in demand for them, and even with that they squeezed my installation in between two others.
I guess it must have been all the sunshine that kept the rivers at high levels all summer then. People I know who have thier own hydro systems didn’t have to jet them down this summer because of all the rain. So a few weeks of hot weather does not a summer make.
