Prince George, B.C. – There is a great opportunity to take a trip way back into the past this weekend at Discover the Dinosaurs at CN Centre.

The hands-on exhibit features more than 40 dinosaurs that roamed the earth at one time, including a 20-foot T-Rex, Triceratops, Iguanodon, Apatosauras and Stegosaurus.  Those attending the show have an opportunity to control movement and sounds which make some of the life-sized creatures appear to come to life.

Show Manager Chris White says the exhibition is entertainment but it’s also educational.  “You come in, you see the animatronic part of it.  You’ll see the  artifacts, touch them, learn about what they used to eat, where they came from.  So you’ve got the learning part of it and also you have the fun part, the hands-on, the mining, the bounce house and so on.  So you’ve got education and entertainment at the same time.”

And he says it’s not just a show for kids.  “Honestly it’s all ages, young and old, people like dinosaurs.”

During our interview in an ice level office I noted that there were several “creatures” including wooly mammoths that appeared to be in storage.  Asked if they were spares in case a display model broke down, White said “no they’re not.  It’s a small arena and we didn’t have room to show everything.”

Discover the Dinosaurs is a production of Blue Star Media in Shoreview, Minnesota.  White says “we’ve got three groups (shows) that run simultaneously.  We spread out and cover the country (U.S.) and now we’re in Canada.  This is only our second week we’ve been in Canada, first time its ever left the States.”

The show opened in Abbotsford and also has stops in Vancouver, Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton along with the two-day stay in Prince George.

The exhibition wraps up today, running from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Was a good time for the kids but we found the layout and no direction left one thinking it was very disorganized. We had to send one family member ahead around the corner to find out if we were in the right line as the lineups for certain “rides” went far past where one could see. Kids had as much or more fun on the way out with the 4 stations of colouring, sand box dino dig, mini golf with a dino footprint, and dino playground than on the floor. Some direction from staff would have made all the difference. Kids hate to stand in a line for an hour and to find out you have been in a line for 20 minutes for something you didn’t want to be in a line for made things frustrating for kids as well as parents. My 2 cents.

Waste of good money. I just expected way more for the premium price they charge. Exploration Place has better exhibits.

The dinosaurs for the most part are not even real size and gimmicky at best. Nothing for real artifacts other than an egg maybe that looks like a rock. The two rides had long hour long line ups and didn’t even work half the time as they had break down issues. I seen better rides at the local playground. I thought the rides would have a nice background for pictures like in their ads but it’s basically a corner of the arena with stands as background. They didn’t even have full backgrounds for taking pictures of their dinosaur displays which is really lame considering the cost of attending and what should be expected. A person could walk through and read all the displays in a half hour.

Not worth a $75 admission for three people. It’s more like paying your way into a place were they can sell children’s toys and books.

I have to question the notion of 40 displayed dinosaurs. I only counted 11 that were on display unless one counts the toys and rides and blow up dinosaur balloons?

Just read above that as attendees we could control movement and sounds, totally missed that at the show. Kids would have definitely liked to do that… like stated above would have been great to have a bit of direction at the show
