Special Production at Legion and CHSS

Monday, November 23, 2015 @ 3:50 AM

Prince George, BC.-  There  are three opportunities today in Prince George to  learn,  from a soldier’s perspective,  what  it was like  during  the First World War.

The Story Theatre Company is  bringing its production  “The Call Went Out”  to Prince George.thecallwent out

The show  takes the audience  on a journey back to the early years of the First World War  through  music of the era  and  actual letters  written by  soldiers  who were in service overseas.

It was  Ranjit Gill, Executive Director of the Railway and Forestry Museum who  was instrumental in bringing the production to P.G. ” I had heard about it, so I contacted Story Theatre, Patricia O’Brien is the general manager there, and she loved the idea of bringing the show to Prince George.”

There are three perfomances scheduled  for Prince George today, with the first  taking place at College Heights Secondary School  later this morning ( 10:20)  then  two  at the Legion with the first set for  3 this afternoon, and the second at 7 this evening.

“It’s a free event for the community” says Gill, “They have  put on the play so far at the Royal BC Museum and they have  accolades, so it has been very well received and I am excited  to  have it  here in Prince George.”

There are no longer any surviving veterans of  the First World War,  so  hearing  from those who had served through the letters they wrote,  will be  as close as one might get  in  today’s world to understanding their experiences.  The show  brings with it, archival material  from the Royal BC Museum, and  invites the audience to  stay after the presentation  for  an opportunity  to ask questions.

Attended this at the Legion and I found it quite interesting presentation. It only lasts half an hour so will not take up much time. Thanks Ranjit.

Who would give my comment a thumbs down about a historical free short play. Show yourself.
