Hart Ski Hill Ready for the Season
Prince George, B.C.- The financial woes seem to have passed for the Hart Ski hill, now there is just one outstanding issue for the hill before it will be running.“We’re hoping for snow” says Mike Gareau, President of the Hart Highlands Winter Club which operates the skill hill in the north end of the city.
Just a few months ago, there was talk of the ski hill’s future being in jeopardy because of a lack of funding, but Gareau says that was a misunderstanding ” We lost our gaming funds, which is approximately $20 thousand dollars a year. We’ve been very fortunate, we’ve always had gaming funds, but as soon as you lose $20 thousand dollars, a year, you have to start rethinking your spending and what you’re gong to do.”
Dollars weren’t the only think lacking last year, the season was cut short because of a distinct lack of snow, so last year was not a good year for the ski hill “If we have another bad year then we’ll have to be extremely cautious on how we spend our money so that we do not close” says Gareau.
On Friday of last week, Brandt Tractor Ltd of Prince George came across with $5,000 for the ski hill “That’s fantastic” says Gareau “We’ve had fantastic support from Brandt and other corporate sponsors in the community, everyone’s been stepping up and helping us out with financial donations parts and pieces for our maintenance, and labour etcetera, so it’s been wonderful.”
Now there is only one thing left, and that is for Mother Nature to do her part, and provide enough snow to make for a good ski season “We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. If we have another bad (snowless) year then we’ll just have to be extremely careful on how we spend our funds so that we don’t close.”
