Air Quality Advisories Continue

Prince George, B.C. – Prince George and Vanderhoof are not in the clear yet.
Both cities remain under air quality advisories due to elevated levels of fine particulates and stagnant air conditions.
Air quality meteorologist Gavin King says the situation is expected to continue until meteorological conditions improve.
Yesterday morning in Prince George, the PM 2.5 twenty four hour rolling average was 33.5 micrograms per cubic metre, while in Vanderhoof it was 44.4 micrograms per cubic metre.
The Provincial target is less than 25 micrograms per cubic metre.

For those who might not watch the occasional Seattle news, they have similar conditions there with air quality advisories.
Guess they did not realize they had that many wood burning fireplaces in those high rise condos.
What about the sulfur compounds?
It is all the stinking sand, we sand the roads and then it dries and chokes us out. Can see it all over, a layer of dust over everything in town. Glad I live outside the bowl now – keep those doors closed, the morning commute is the worst for dust. At least this bit of ice fog that falls like snow for a few hours might help keep that road dust down
“The particles that come from wood smoke can certainly cause fatal heart or lung disease. In human cells that were exposed to the particles, substantial DNA damage and mutation took place. It was comparable to the effects of particles given off by traffic,” said professor Steffen Loft, of the Department of Public Health at Copenhagen University.
When scientists tested the wood-burning particles on human cells in a laboratory, they found that the particles caused more cellular and DNA damage than air without the particles.
Fine particulates. Air Quality Advisory. Give your neighbours a break.
Does Pal know about Seattle? But I guess he only gets as far as Abbotsford and then stops his journey. Maybe its all just his imagination. Old Harpwerman himself.
Cheers
Hi Abbyman! The comment by gopg2015 was made tongue-in-cheek! Of course woodsmoke is bad for one’s health, on par with fine particulates coming from various sources! That is why the City provides the option of free bus transit during Air Quality Advisories as it wants people to abstain from using their personal vehicles! The City also prohibits the use of woodstoves within city limits during an AQA if one has natural gas or electricity to keep one’s home warm! Small sacrifice, but…
