Operation Red Nose Continues to Deliver
Monday, December 7, 2015 @ 3:52 AM
On Friday, Dec. 4, 65 volunteers, including 20 road teams, delivered 95 rides, travelling 2,433 kilometres. The number of rides equalled a record for night three that was set in 2014.
On Saturday, Dec. 5, 74 volunteers, including 22 road teams, provided 125 rides, travelling 3,771 km.
“The demand for rides on the weekend seemed to go in waves,” said Operation Red Nose spokesperson Andrea Johnson. “We’d be all caught up with teams taking clients home and then a next batch of calls would come in. Wait times were minimal and everyone who called for a ride received one.”
So far after four nights, Operation Red Nose has given a total of 308 safe rides home.
Currently 224 volunteers have signed up to help out the designated driving service organized by the Nechako Rotary Club in partnership with ICBC and the Prince George RCMP during the holiday season.
Volunteers are still needed, especially for New Year’s Eve. To sign up, they can apply online at www.ornpg.ca and fill out an application form. Volunteers must be 19 years old with a valid driver’s license. The application also includes a Criminal Record Check.

When has it changed from 12 days of Christmas to 30 or more?? Maybe we should be volunteering all year around to drive drunks home. Hum-Bug
It is a great option to have at this time of year, considering that there are so many Christmas parties throughout the month and New Year’s Eve as well. With shittle buses, taxis and Operation Red Nose available, there is absolutely no excuse to be driving after any amount of drinks. Big thanks to those who volunteer. I seriously hope to see Christmas and New Years go by without a single alcohol related MVA. Enjoy the season, but be responsible too.
