He takes the role from Suzanne Anton who will continue to serve as Minister of Justice and Attorney General.
Premier Christy Clark released the following statement on the appointment of Morris this morning:
“Mike Morris brings strong experience to the Executive Council as a 32 year veteran of the RCMP and former North District superintendent. He will bring a singular focus to public safety as he builds on Suzanne Anton’s many accomplishments and an outstanding record of being tough on crime and strong on crime prevention.”
Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training Shirley Bond was thrilled with the news.
“He is a very hard worker and obviously his background in public safety will be an enormous asset to us,” she said.
“The biggest smile is because we now have four cabinet ministers, five if you include Minister Bernier in Dawson Creek. So northern B.C. will have an even stronger voice at the cabinet table.”
The other two northern cabinet ministers include Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation John Rustad and Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction Coralee Oakes
