Canadian Aboriginal Fastball Tournament Coming to P.G.
Prince George, B.C. – Prince George will welcome between 50 and 80 teams on the August long weekend, as participants for the Canadian Aboriginal Fastball tournament.
Prince George will be represented by the P.G. River Kings, who have been playing fastball in the community and across North America for the past 20 years.
The group hosting the tournament has called upon the City of Prince George to offer whatever inkind donations can be made, including portable toilets, portable fencing, temporary bleachers and extra bins for garbage.
City staff say this event doesn’t qualify for the new Community Celebration grants, as those grants are meant for events that are focused in the downtown.
“This is huge” says Mayor Lyn Hall “When it comes to sports tourism I don’t want to leave any rock unturned, and if that means involving more of our people on this event, then I would want to pursue that.”
The organizers have been asked to continue working with Administration on the budget for the event, and develop a final budget that can be presented to Council January 18th for discussion and possible approval.
