Operation Red Nose In Service Again

Friday, December 18, 2015 @ 4:25 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Operation Red Nose Prince George is back in action for its fourth weekend of 2015, with just three nights of service left.

Spokesperson Andrea Johnson says they have 22 volunteer road teams out tonight with another 24 teams set to go Saturday.

“Looking back, in 2014 we provided 118 rides on night 7 (Friday), but our record was 142 in 2010.  As for night 8 (Saturday), we delivered 171 rides in 2014. In 2010, we gave a record 177 rides.”  So far this season 130 teams have delivered 568 rides, travelling 17,124 kilometres in six nights.

“As for volunteers” says Johnson, “ we desperately need people for New Year’s Eve. Right now we only have 25 teams, but we’ll need at least 15 more to keep up with the demand for rides that we expect, which is more than 200.”

To volunteer, go online to www.ornpg.ca and fill out an application. To be part of a road team, volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and undergo a Criminal Record Check which is part of the application.

Volunteers on New Year’s Eve have a chance to win a variety of prizes, and a helicopter ride over the city, thanks to Aberdeen Helicopters.

Operation Red Nose is a designated driving service organized by the Nechako Rotary Club in partnership with the Prince George RCMP and ICBC.
