Police Investigation Underway in Williams Lake – Update

Sunday, January 3, 2016 @ 4:40 PM

Prince George, B.C. – The North District RCMP’s Major Crime Unit is conducting an investigation in Williams Lake but so far officials have not commented on what has occurred.

A resident of the Glendale area in Williams Lake tells 250 News that he understands people, not a person but people, were shot at the corner of Mackenzie Avenue and Pine Street on Saturday afternoon.  He says police have had a section of the roadway blocked off since 5:30 pm Saturday, and it is still blocked off.  He says there have been several police officers in the area along with a canine unit.

The resident, who does not want his name released, says Mackenzie Avenue runs off the road that goes to the mills and co-generation plant in the industrial area of Williams Lake.  He says the area, which is in the oldest part of the town, includes both industrial and residential buildings.  He says anyone who knows where the Old Trading Post store is will know the area he’s talking about.

The man says he saw two people laying on the ground when he drove by Mackenzie Avenue around 5:30 Saturday afternoon.  He says police officers went door-to-door Saturday night asking if anyone had heard any gunshots or had seen anyone.  He says police also told people to lock their doors because there might be a suspect on the loose.

250 News has made several attempts to contact RCMP officials for information on what has occurred in Williams Lake, however there has been no information forthcoming at this time.
