The best defense against rising prices is to not buy the product.

Price of grapes is its weight in gold these days. Even apples are near ten bucks for a small bag. And then there is the cost of a $15 steak a year ago now cost near $40 for the same quality it seems….

Instead of giving out natural gas away to mega corporations so they can make huge profits selling it to Japan, Korea, China, etc; we should ensure a stable supply for the North. This gas should be make available **cheap** for anyone who wants to set up greenhouses for growing vegetables during the winter months.
All it takes is getting some leaders who can actually think outside the box. Do any exist????

Not so easy Palopu. 15% of my gas bill was carbon tax, which is a fixed amount, doesn’t move with the price of gas, and 5% was GST, which was charged on the carbon tax. The carbon impact of a greenhouse operation up here is huge, vs the completely carbon neutral method of trucking iceberg lettuce from California and Mexico. Ironic considering lettuce is 5% fibre, so we trucked essentially water from drought stricken California.
Using grow lights pushes me into Tier 2 of my electric bill, which is 50% more than Tier 1, so probably isn’t economical – unless maybe one of those unemployed grow-op people will show me how to get free electricity.
Yes, there is homegrown solutions, but government policy ensures the inefficient method trumps all. Carbon tax on natural gas in B.C., no Carbon tax on fuel purchased in US to truck vegetables into B.C.
