Cariboo Cougars Are Hot
Prince George, B.C. – The Cariboo Cougars are on a roll and their winning streak has reached double digits.
Third-period goals by Reid Perepeluk and Jeremy Gervais lifted the Cougars to a second straight 2-1 win over the South Island Royals on Saturday afternoon in Shawnigan Lake. The Cougars have now swept five straight BC Major Midget League weekend double headers en route to 10 consecutive wins. They have not lost a league game since November.
Saturday’s victory lifts the Cougars’ record to 21-6-3, good for first place. The second place Valley West Hawks are two points back with three games in hand, one of which will be made up on Sunday in Langley against the Vancouver Northwest Giants.
The Cougars and Hawks face off next weekend in Richmond with first place on the line.
On Saturday the Cougars and Royals were scoreless after two periods, but a pair of Cariboo goals two minutes apart gave the visitors a lead they would never relinquish.
Mason Richey set up Perepeluk’s goal and Riley Coish set up the Gervais tally as the Cougars outshot the Royals 43-19. Aaron Jakubowski picked up the win between the pipes.
