Prince George, B.C. – Men’s Health Day takes place this Saturday at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia.

The Rotary Club of Prince George is sponsoring the event which includes a morning and an afternoon session.

President and men’s health initiative chair Ross Birchall says there’s also a group session.

“Which covers all the general health issues affecting men like testicular cancer, prostate cancer, cardiovascular health, and diabetes.”

Birchall says that will be followed by individual appointments to address any specific personal needs that need to be addressed.

He calls the event timely. “In January, obviously men have resolutions or their wives have resolutions for them and part of that is taking better care of our health. That’s the whole idea, getting the conversation started and building a positive relationship with your primary care provider.”

He adds holding the event on a Saturday was by design.

“Absolutely, that’s one of the biggest things our participants say, ‘hey, we can’t get to our doctor because I can’t take time off work during the week.’ So coming in on Saturday and dealing with a bunch of issues in one go is definitely beneficial to them.”
