Prince George, B.C. – The search is on for a person believed to have gone into the Nechako River early this morning.

RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass says they received a report of a person jumping into the river near the John Hart Bridge at 12:30 am.

Within minutes, he says officers were on scene trying to locate the person though they were ultimately unsuccessful.

Douglass says officers didn’t come up completely empty though, noting they were able to locate clothing along the shore line where the person was seen entering the river, under the bridge.

The clothing is described as a green, large or extra-large Bugatti men’s winter jacket and a grey/green toque with a pom-pom.

Prince George Search and Rescue and Prince George Fire Rescue were called out to assist but due to darkness and ice conditions on the river, boats could not be used and the search was suspended.

Weather permitting, that search is expected to resume today by land and air. Circumstances surrounding this search are unknown at this time.

If you have any information about this incident you are asked to call the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300.
