Prince George, B.C. – One person was killed in an avalanche in the Torpy area Saturday according to Prince George Search and Rescue (PGSAR).
Search manager Dale Bull says PGSAR responded to the incident in the Torpy area approximately 100km northeast of Prince George yesterday just before noon.
He says a five member avalanche response team was dispatched to the area on snowmobile after being alerted to the situation by the RCMP.
Bull says the snowmobilers were able to contact RCMP to notify them of what happened.
“A party of five snowmobilers were riding when one member of the group became involved in an avalanche,” he says. “That one person was fatally injured. The other four members of the party were uninjured and able to ride out of the area.”
Bull says weather prohibited the use of a helicopter in the search though the Avalanche response team was able to recover the body of the deceased individual.
The identity of that person has not been released.
