Craft Brewery Planned for Downtown P.G.

Wednesday, January 27, 2016 @ 11:11 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The details have yet to be  released, but  there are  plans  for a craft brewery to be established in downtown Prince George.

Business partners Daryl Leiski and Bjorn Butow  will make it all official tomorrow, when they unveil their plans for the former Tony Romas  restaurant on George Street.

This is not the first time a craft brewery  will have  been  established in  Prince George.   Several years ago, the Buffalo Brewing company  set up  on  Brunswick  Street.  That  business closed, and  the  building  went through  some changes  first  to a restaurant – lounge   and now a real estate office.

Good luck guys….

this is a great addition to downtown PG, and George St. Nicely done, best of luck!

BarkervilleBrewing in Quesnel has been successful. Hopefully the PG folks follow their lead. Hopefully locals like Nancy-O’s and the Copper Pig will support them by selling their product. Good luck.

Good luck fellas, that spot has been empty for a very long time.

It might just work this time. The biggest problem for Buffalo Brewing was that they were simply just ahead of the curve up here.

I agree with billyinpg.
To be fair, I was in elementary school when Buffalo Brewing was around, but micro-breweries have just recently started to boom. Also, I do believe PG was not doing well economically in the 90s.

Just what we need more BOOZE EH! counsil…..and a new NEEDLE park thats going to cost close to a Million…..

So the question is, that the these are proud moments for these independent business people. They are investing a lot of money and time into this venture.

So why is it necessary for the media to bring up the unsuccessfulness of Buffalo Brewing. Are they eluding to them being unsuccessful. Shouldn’t the media be embracing these business people and allowing them a moment in the sun, instead of a cheap shot to the ribs.

I’m sure this comment will be removed.

“Also, I do believe PG was not doing well economically in the 90s.”

Very true! But the Buffalo Brewing was run long distance by Vancouver people although local investors had a big financial stake in it. Hopefully the new craft brewery will have local management and local decision making. The Buffalo Brewing Company had a dynamite menu, beer of exceptional quality and a large loyal customer base. Unfortunately it became a victim of circumstances. Good Luck to the new brewery!

What amazing news. Bout friggen time.

Good luck to the new venture. Hopefully it adds to the quality restaurants that are already in PG. I also used to like going to the Buffalo Brewing Company. Heck, I used to like Niner’s Diner also. Cajun Burger anyone?

I wish them success. That spot has been empty for some time. Hopefully they will start back with a viable local restaurant format. The micro brewery is a great addition.

I believe that it was the 1980s when the city was not doing that well with the crash of the economy in the west and especially PG. The 1990s seemed to have a levelling off and improvement. At least that is my memory. Others might disagree.

I would love to see an informal format such as Beercraft in Vancouver which has a format along Belgian pub/restaurants serving many Belgian beers on tap in addition to local kraft beer plus mussels from Penn Cove done to perfection steamed in about 8 different versions of broth.

Time for the inhabitants of this City to start coming out if their cocoons.

Awesome!! My wife & I were talking about this the other night. Why does Penticton have 3 craft breweries & PG none? Pacific Western has a craft line where they can put out seasonal brews, some of which are quite good. Question; Is this a brew pub or a full on brewery? There is a difference. No matter, more choice to add to some of the local flavour. Three Ranges Brewing in Valemount also makes some decent brews.

I’d guess a brew pub/restaurant detoe44. Unless they paid a song for the building it wouldn’t make sense to locate a brewery in the heart of downtown. With corner frontage like that in the heart of downtown you’re going to operate a restaurant. These are great places. Jasper and Banff both have one. The Heidout in Cranbrook is a great little brew pub/restaurant. Not only can you stop for a pint or two and a great meal but you can buy a growler of your favourite beer and take it home. Come back again and get the growler refilled! Go to Portland or Eugene Oregon and brew pub/restaurants are literally everywhere.

I can remember when that site was actually a Garage–way back in the 60’s!! Not Delorme’s either, another one.

Seems to me when the place was a garage it was called Prince George Motors.

Awesome news, will pay a visit or two for sure.

Wonder how they’ll keep the downtown riff-raff out?

Great news! All the best, I look forward to the opening.

I think it was Spruceland Chrysler that used to be in that location.
