Saturday, February 13, 2016 @ 4:01 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Chinese New Year is being celebrated this evening at the Hart Community Centre.

This is the Year of the Monkey on the Chinese calendar.  The new year began on February 8th andGung%20Hay%20Fat%20Choy runs until January 27th, 2017.   One of the organizers of tonight’s festivities, Erin Jacobs, says “it’s a family-oriented, fun event with a huge variety of Chinese cuisine all usually made by the Hart Community Centre.”

“And then we have a show.  The Lion Dancers come in and do an amazing show, we have a DJ, an ancient gong which the kids like to bang all night long, so it’s a very chaotic, exciting event that we put on every year.”  She believes this is year number seven for this particular Chinese New Year celebration.

Doors at the Hart Community Centre, 4900 West Austin Road, open at 4:30 pm, dinner begins at 5:30 pm and the celebration runs through to 1 am.

Tickets are $30 plus tax for adults and $10 plus tax for kids 10 and under.  And  Jacobs says “while we try to have all our tickets sold prior to the celebration so we know how much food will be needed and for the set-up, if there’s a few people that do come by we try our best to accommodate as many as possible.”
