Gas Tax Benefits Skeena-Bulkley Communities
Hazelton, B.C. – Five communities and two regional districts in the federal riding of Skeena-Bulkley Valley are the beneficiaries of close to $9.2 million of the $73 million in federal funding announced for 57 projects across British Columbia.
“It is a fantastic achievement that our communities were able to secure almost 13 percent of the funding allocated to the entire province for much-needed capital and capacity building projects,” says MP Nathan Cullen.
The following projects in his riding are receiving funding:
City of Terrace: Terrace Aquatic Centre Renewal/Upgrade – $4,325,430
Village of Granisle: Granisle Bioenergy District Heating System – $637,000
Town of Smithers: Airport Terminal Building Expansion and Improvements – $4,000,000
Village of Hazelton: Long-term Infrastructure & Asset Management Plan, Phase 2 – $58,700
City of Prince Rupert: City of Prince Rupert Asset Management, Phase 1 – $97,250
District of Port Edward: Asset Management Projects – $60,000
Skeena-Queen Charlotte Regional District: SQCRD Regional Recycling Depot Asset Management Plan – $18,489
The funding is from the federal Gas Tax Fund and projects were selected through the application-based Strategic Priorities Fund.
“The infusion of federal funds to help Northwest communities build, upgrade or outright replace community infrastructure will really help to get some of these important projects off the ground,” said Cullen. “I want to recognize the hard work of municipal governments and staff for their roles in bringing this money to their communities.”

Owing to the amazing support the federal governments have received over the decades from Prince George . Moore springs to mind . I’m sure that the funds eventually coming to Prince George will put everything else received in the north in the shade .
Considering that those out west are anti just about anything to do with oil they must be holding their borg collective noses with hand while holding the other out.
You’re right seamut . I bet Prince George burns way more gas than do the rest of the tax kickback recipients on the list mentioned . 9.2 mil Prince George should have gotten half , right ? I wonder where the other 64 mil went . And I wonder why pg got none . Maybe ask Moore . He’s the local insider , right ?
Not everyone is anti development in the Bulkley region (like me for instance)
Maybe now they will be less anti anything. Hmmm.
