Prince George, B.C. – Fire crews from City of Prince George Halls and the Pineview Volunteer Fire Department were called to assist at the Prince George airport late Saturday night.
Just after 10:30 pm officials here were notified that the flight crew of an aircraft had reported a problem with the nose of their aircraft and that they would be landing at YXS at 11:10 pm.
Initially the notification was termed routine, but that was upgraded to emergency status at about 10:50 pm. The Prince George Airport Authority Emergency Services had its team in position and the Pineview Fire Department and City crews were positioned according to procedure.
The aircraft was a Westjet Q400 carrying 58 passengers. It landed safely and without incident at the Prince George airport, with several fire trucks at the ready should they be needed.

After disembarking one male passenger who did not wish to be identified said the flight was on a direct Vancouver to Terrace trip. He said he was told there was an indication of a problem with the landing gear, however the jet landed safely.
Passengers were given vouchers to stay in Prince George hotels for the night.

Glad it landed safe.
Just curious, thought YXS has a dedicated fire department and crew, yet no mention of them. Are they not the experts in airplane incidents?
Are they not staffed at night?
It is standard practice even at the major international airports to bring in outside resources you always want more equipment than you actually need if you have the time to organize it
In answer to your question yes the YXS airport is manned round the clock
Also this falls under federal regulations that if the airport is big enough to take a 747 it must by law have on site fire/rescue of which there are 26 airports in Canada with the designation and PG airport has had that designation for over 40 years now
Thanks for that.
