Fatal Crash Near McLeese Lake – Update

Friday, February 19, 2016 @ 12:43 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Two people have been killed in a fiery crash on Highway 97 just north of McLeese Lake.

North District Corporal Dave Tyreman says the tragedy ocurred last night just before 10:00 p.m. after a collision between a passenger vehicle and a transport truck.

The condition of the trucker is unknown while the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The names of the deceased have not been released.

Tyreman says Mounties also attended to another head on collision on Highway 16 just west of Vanderhoof about an hour and a half earlier.

He says that crash involved a suburban and a pickup resulting in serious but non-life threatening injuries for both drivers.

Comments

“He says due to the severity of damage to the passenger vehicle, police were not able to determine the number of possible occupants inside.”

My thoughts are with the first responders to this incident, the trucker (assume he survived?) Must have been a terrible scene.
metalman.

Right around this time 3 years ago there was that bad crash again north of mcleese. Bad off camber corner and black ice catches people .. sad

yep, there is some flat corners. They should put some money into banking the corners a bit.

condolences to the family

Again this is just terrible. Condolences to the family. I don’t know what caused this accident but I can tell you that this highway to the lower mainland is just terrible. When you are night driving there is no longer any line markers left on the pavement to know your position on the road. Also the pavement is very dark when it is raining and without any lines on the road there is no reflection from your headlights. Heading into curves with no lines is even worse.

Then you go to the coast drive off the ferry and everything down to the wildlife has reflectors on it .

Our northern tax dollars have to be spent where it benefits the most people. In the south.

Roads, vehicles with a closing speed of 200kph passing within feet of each other. Insane when one thinks about it.

Last year I called the powers to be about getting line painting and I was assured that within two weeks the contractor would start painting but to no avail it never happened. We all talk about saftey in the workplace and that tools have to be kept up to par to avoid accidents like guards on the saw, cranes marked with proper lifting weight and no loose hammer handles etc, etc. These highways are tools for many people and need to be properly maintained . When we can talk about building mega projects and do not have enough money to paint lines on the highway for safty reasons something is very wrong with this province. Remember, these highways are a tool. Maybe what is needed is to call Worksafe BC and have them do an inspection of these highways. With no lines painted I am sure they would give you a time limit and if not adheared too, they would tag out the highway tool and close it down. Maybe we should make it manditory that our MLAs have to night drive to Prince Rupert or Vancouver 3-4 times a month and they could take Todd Stone with them.
