Support for Enbridge Down Among BC Residents
Prince George, B.C. – A new Insightswest poll shows support for the Northern Gateway pipeline project is slipping.
The online survey of British Columbians posed the question; “Given what you know about the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines Project, do you support or oppose the project?”
35% of respondents said they support the project. That’s down from a similar survey conducted in July of 2015, in which 41% said they supported Northern Gateway.
Interesting to note, there is little change in the number of folks who oppose the project with 51% saying they oppose it, down from 52% in July of last year.
Although nearly 75% of those questioned said they were familiar with the pipeline project, there is an increasing number of survey respondents who say they aren’t sure where they stand. 14% responded as being not sure, the highest percentage in the five surveys conducted over three years on this question.
Nearly three in four (77%) say the project would create new jobs, and 68% believe it will support economic growth. On the downside, only 38% believe it would benefit First Nations.
The majority of those polled (83%) cite concerns about increased oil tanker traffic at Kitimat and in the Douglas Channel. A full 80% expressed concerns about the risk of an oil spill.

Would be interesting to see the geographic layout over the province of the poll compared with the results.
Why is it that we hear very little about the enormous amount of tanker traffic up and down the St. Lawrence Seaway? Are the risks any different for Kitimat or Prince Rupert? Of course not. So, what’s the big deal?
You quite obviously don’t know the difference between the geographic features of our coast and the St Lawrence Seaway.
