Highway 16 West Crash Details Released

Friday, March 4, 2016 @ 8:00 AM

Prince George, B.C.- RCMP  say thee were only minor injuries in a crash yesterday on  Highway 16 West at Daigle Pit Road near Cluculz Creek.

The crash involved an east bound pick up and a  tanker truck.

According to witnesses,  the tanker truck driver was  able to  swerve away from the cab of the  pick up ,  but  collided with the  back portion causing extensive damage to the  box of the truck.

As a result of the crash, both vehicles went off the road and into a ravine.

Drivers of the two vehicles were sent to hospital with minor injuries.

The highway was reduced to single lane alternating traffic for nearly 6 hours to allow the tanker truck to be  pumped free of fuel and  to recover both vehicles.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation but speed may have been a contributing factor of one of the drivers.

My complaint about that stretch of highway is not the way the highway was left for the winter but the speed limit of 80 kms per hour. I believe that slow down is the cause of frustration and then people passing. That stretch always has had steep drop off and has been made better by the passing lane now there. Although it’s not paved yet. Let the 100 kms per hour return and I bet there would be fewer accidents and close calls.

I like how on the earlier news post the nay Sayers instead of waiting for word of what caused the accident to start pointing fingers right away instead of getting the facts first I wonder how their feet taste

Glad to see the tanker driver was quick to react to prevent a more serious incident

I still don’t read where it says what the actual cause or whos’ fault the accident was. Just saying the truck driver was able to swerve to hit the back of the truck instead of the cab doesn’t mean he wasn’t the one who lost control.

they are both very lucky. For what I saw of the tanker and the pick up truck. I would assume that they were both heading to PG, the pick up in the lead, lost control on a patch of ice or slush. The tanker truck likely saw it unfolding, but could not slow the rig down fast enough and chose to hit the box of the truck instead of the cab. In the process, they both ended up in the ditch.

If this is the way it unfolded, thank you Mr Tanker truck driver.

A lot of people complain about industrial traffic on the highway…. if it weren’t for them, you wont have groceries, or jobs.

Remember this, if you bought it,,a truck brought it.

Those people complaining endlessly about the big rigs suffer from small car syndrome
