Prince George, B.C. – The 2015 Canada Winter Games are in the running for some ‘prestigious’ awards tomorrow in Ottawa.download

The Games are one of two dozen finalists for the 2016 Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) Prestige awards which recognizes the sport tourism industry in Canada.

“From major multi-sport, multi-city international events, to smaller, intimate local ones, to outstanding volunteers and organizations, the finalists exemplify the best in bidding, hosting and staging sports events across Canada,” reads a CSTA news release.

The Games have been nominated in the Canadian Sport Event of the Year and Sustainable Sport of the Year categories.

Anthony Everett, chair of the Games host committee, has also been nominated for the Sport Volunteer of the Year Award.

Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall says he’s pretty excited about the recognition the city is receiving.

“It’s a big deal once again for the games but also for Prince George,” he says. “And again, it puts us on the national stage.”
