Gravel Road and Pothole Repair Updates for Council
Prince George, B.C.- Gravel road maintenance and pothole repairs will be discussed at this evening’s regular meeting of Prince George City Council.
In a report to Council, staff provide some background on the types of maintenance for the 256 kilometre lanes of gravel roads in Prince George, and the factors which can cause problems.
In 2015, City roads division spent $776 thousand on gravel road maintenance and repairs. The report also states the City is looking to see if there is a possibility of working in partnership with the Regional District’s contractors who seal coat Regional District gravel roads. That process reduces dust, and can prevent water from seeping through to the road base.
When it comes to potholes, the update to Council says 1267 potholes have been repaired from January 1st to Feb. 17th of this year. It is anticipated the purchase of a hot mix asphalt recycler will improve the longevity of pothole repairs as the recycler will provide the opportunity to have the preferred hot mix outside the normal operation times of asphalt plants which is usually late May to early October.
There is one formal public hearing on the agenda this evening. The request is to change the Official Community Plan and zoning to allow for a Naturopath’s office and residence on two lots on 11th Avenue at Winnipeg. There are two letters opposing the changes each expressing concerns about traffic and parking.
Also on the agenda for this evening’s meeting, housekeeping changes to the zoning and liquor license bylaws. The changes don’t alter any of the rules, rather, they clean up the bylaws by removing unnecessary language.

Can anyone tell me where the Cannabis dispenseary is??
If they opened up a bunch of pot shops you would have to get over the work boot allergy that runs in your family and find a real job you could not keep up with the competition as all your profit goes up in smoke PPP
It would be nice to have all the gravel/dirt alleys around town seal coated in the least. It is a fairly durable application.
That new asphalt machine will have to be parked on Marleau and Bear roads permanently.
As per usual the Danson Industrial Site is allowed to deteriorate until it requires major repairs. Most right turn corners leading from Carrier are so undermined on the corners that the water is a foot deep running under the pavement undermining the whole road bed, when all it would take is a few yards of gravel to shore the road up from the shoulder. Crossing the tracks at the rail crossing has two huge pot holes on the East side of the tracks that rattle every truck passing further pounding out the pavement.
Do they pay city taxes in the Danson industrial area? It appears as though its a black hole for city maintenance….
