No Word on When Quesnel Mill Will Reopen
Quesnel, B.C. – The waiting game has begun for employees of WestPine’s MDF plant in Quesnel.
The roughly 100 employees who work there don’t know when they’ll be returning to work following last night’s explosion and subsequent fire.
In an email this morning, mill operators West Fraser would only say that “the facility will not be operational for a period of time.”
Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson doesn’t know himself noting this morning that “West Fraser couldn’t even get on site last night” to conduct a facilities assessment.
His understanding is that there were eight employees in the immediate area at the time of the blast and says he’s just relieved no one was hurt.
“I think the main thing for us is when these situations occur, that there are no injuries and that people are cleared from the area.”
No word yet on damages. Investigators are on scene today.
