Prince George, B.C. – Investigators with the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) are headed to Prince George.

It’s in regards to what police have described as last weekend’s “suspicious” death in the 1100 block of Alward Street.

It was just after 10 p.m. Saturday night when Mounties responded to a complaint of a disturbance.

Marten Youssef, the IIO’s communications manager, says police reported that they located the subject of the complaint and were made aware of a possible female victim.

The woman was subsequently discovered in medical distress in the same area and was transported to hospital where she later died.

“The initial focus of the IIO investigation will be to determine if there is a connection between the death of the female and actions or inactions of officers,” says Youssef.

“The IIO will not be providing any information about the deceased; this remains the responsibility of the BC Coroners Service. The RCMP is responsible for any concurrent investigation.”

Witnesses are asked to call the IIO information line at 1-855-446-8477.
