P.G. Unemployment Up
Prince George, B.C.- The unemployment rate in Prince George was 5.8% last month, up from 4.4% recorded in February of 2015.Statistics Canada analyst Vincent Ferrao says there was no single sector which saw significant job losses, “There were some in the finance, insurance and real estate sector, as well as information culture and recreation.” He says there wee also some losses in the category of personal and household services.
There were 46,800 people working in Prince George last month compared to 47,500 in the same month a year ago.
For the Cariboo region, which includes Prince George, the rate climbed to 7.4% in February, up from 5% in the same month a year ago.
The provincial rate inched up to 6.6% a half a percentage point higher than the 6.1% recorded in February of 2015.
As for the National rate, it was sitting at 7.3% , up from 6.9% in February of 2015.
