Prince George, B.C. – The Cariboo Cougars are off to the BC Major Midget Hockey League championship series.

The Cougars edged the Vancouver Northwest Giants 2-1 in double overtime Sunday afternoon to take their tight, hard-fought best-of-three semi-final series 2 games to 1.

A defensive miscue behind the Vancouver net turned the puck over to the Cougars and a perfect pass to the slot landed on the stick of Trey Thomas, who beat netminder Beck Warm cleanly for the series-winning goal at 6:33 of the second overtime period.

The three goalies who played in the series, Dorrin Luding for the Cougars and Warm and David Tendeck for Vancouver, were huge on several occasions in games that went 3-2 Vancouver, 3-1 Cariboo and then the double O/T deciding game Sunday.

The Cariboo Cougars will play in the championship final next weekend against the winner of the other semi between the West Valley Hawks and Okanagan Rockets, which also is going to a third and deciding game this afternoon in South Surrey.
