Local Mountie Heading Out
Prince George, B.C. – North District RCMP Staff Sergeant Reinhold Weissbock heads out today, not for another detachment, but for a posting overseas.
Staff Sergeant Weissbock is on his way to Indonesia, “I’m going to be teaching at the Police School in Jakarta.”
This is not his first overseas deployment, S/Sgt, Weissbock was in Cosovo 2001/2002 for 9 months during the war crimes trials there, then served 6 months in Jordan in 2004 working with the Iraqi Police.
He says the overseas work helps fulfill his dream “When I joined the RCMP, I wanted adventure, so here’s an opportunity to try something different and see the world.”
He will be teaching anti-terrorism and national security methods to Jakarta Police. While some may feel it is a difficult time to be heading overseas what with recent terrorist attacks in a number of countries, he is not concerned “It ( a terrorist attack) can happen anywhere, so no, I’m not concerned, you know it could happen here.”
Having spent the holiday weekend packing and spending time with family, he says he is eager to get to the new posting “I’m looking forward to getting there and settling in.”
It is a one year deployment he hopes will be beneficial upon his return to North District “It’s a learning opportunity for me too” says S/Sgt Weissbock ” A lot of the skills I develop in those places, I can bring back and put to use here.”

Is there any particular reason why this is even a news story? Lots of people get transferred from one area to another during their careers but it certainly doesn’t make headlines. Slow news day I suppose.
Maybe they need to recruit.
Reminds me of “join the armed forces and travel the world”.
Because the police are special.

At least this guy is trying to help make the world a better place. What do you do to help. Maybe you buy a Tim’s coffee to send an American kid to camp
That’s a pretty high horse you’re on. What do you do to help?
All the best in your assignment Staff Sergeant.
“It (a terrorist attack) can happen anywhere, so no, I’m not concerned, you know it could happen here.”
However, has it ever happened in PG?
“He will be teaching anti-terrorism and national security methods to Jakarta Police”
I am assuming it is all text book and simulated training. What actual terrorism experience has he had? What actual terrorism experience have the Jakarta police had?
What are the rules of engagement in Jakarta versus British Columbia?
In other words, who will be teaching whom?
Strange how when some on public money go to China it is called a junket by some on the blogs, but this is not.
Remember what he said: “When I joined the RCMP, I wanted adventure, so here’s an opportunity to try something different and see the world.”

Jakarta attack: Indonesians denounce deadly IS bombings, shooting with show of solidarity
“Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the gunfire and seven explosions, including one attack at a Starbucks near the United Nations building, that took place in central Jakarta on Thursday.
“The death toll now stands at eight, including four civilians.”
Just in case some do not know the Indonesian situation.

It has been like that for at least two decades.
By equating the PG situation regarding terrorism and the Jakarta situation he is being very disingenuous. In my opinion he has a lot to learn about the risks of terrorism in various regions of the world, especially PG.
I have to almost envy a guy who can take a year off from his career to fulfill a personal dream and have his job waiting for him when he is ready to come home. All power to him, I’d probably do the same if I could, but I would not choose Jakarta Indonesia.
