Youth Vote Study Extended
Prince George, B.C. – Those interested in understanding why few youth bother to vote have more time to participate in a local study.
The research project has been spearheaded by Political Science students at UNBC and they’ll be hanging out at Real Canadian Superstore after 5 p.m. this week hoping you’ll take the time to fill out their five minute survey (you can also participate online by clicking here).
Political Science major Chunny Varaich says she’s puzzled why young voters from the ages of 18 to 35 are less likely to cast a ballot than other age groups.
“This is really interesting because for us, we understand our democratic right,” she says. “And that’s because we’ve been taught so much about it, but we want to know why other students, why youth don’t feel their vote doesn’t count, why they don’t go out and vote.”
Varaich says the study was extended because their class is around 100 surveys shy of reaching their goal.
Once the participation period ends this Sunday, she says the findings will be released shortly after April 12.
