Prince George, B.C.- April has been officially proclaimed as Daffodil Month in Prince George, a special month of fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society.Mayor Lyn Hall joined several representatives from the Canadian Cancer Society at City Hall today, to raise the Society’s flag. “From a personal perspective, and community perspective, I want to thank the group that is here today” said Mayor Lyn Hall. “We’ve all been impacted, that’s why I say from a personal perspective, this has a tremendous amount of meaning for me, I’ve lost some very close friends over the last couple of years, and it is a difficult experience to go through. I know this group, and others in the community , have made it somewhat easier for folks.” He said the raising of the flag and the proclamation go a long way to show the community is “steadfast behind all of you in all the work you do.”
But it isn’t just about the month of April, says Margaret Jones-Bricker of the Canadian Cancer Society
Typically, volunteers would be seen throughout the month, selling bunches of daffodils, but this hasn’t been a typical year.
The daffodils peaked in March, so Bricker says those same volunteers who were selling the flowers last month, will be hoping folks will purchase a daffodil pin. “None of us has a crystal ball on the weather and climate change is a reality” says Jones-Bricker ” historically April has been our month, but perhaps in the future we will need to re-evaluate.”
The pins can be found at numerous locations throughout the City including Starbucks, the BC Liquor stores and Pharma -Save.
