New Course Coming to PG School District
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George School Board approved two new PE classes at its monthly meeting last night.
‘Games People Play 11’ was designed by Steve Callahan and will debut next fall at Kelly Road Secondary and ‘Games People Play 12’ in January.
“Really both courses are designed to provide senior level PE credits and really teach kids about the idea of play,” says trustee and education programs and planning committee chair Tim Bennett. “Allowing them to modify and design their own games.”
He says “a really neat part” of the course is its leadership component.
“Where the senior grades will now be working with junior grades and transition from grade 7 to grade 8 teaching them their new sports and their new games.”
Interestingly, the elective course is an alternative to the PE most kids grew up with.
“It allows teachers to teach to their passion and it gives more choice for kids,” says Bennett
“So rather than for those who may not be interested or inclined to take a senior PE class, this gives them the opportunity to get the senior PE credits, still staying active but not necessarily focused on the traditional sports that are played in a PE class.”
