Williams Lake, B.C. – Good news on the wildfire front.

Both the wildfire near Nazko and the wildfire near the Bonaparte River recreation site are now 100% contained.

Despite the containment, Cariboo Fire Centre fire information officer Emily Epp says 30 firefighters are continuing their fire suppression efforts 3 km south of the community of Nazko with the support of a helicopter.

She says the fire near the Bonaparte River recreation site, 15 km southeast of 70 Mile House, is now in the mop-up stage. 22 firefighters remain on scene there extinguishing hot spots.

Epp says all other fires in the Cariboo Fire Centre are either extinguished or in the patrol stage at this time.

She notes it’s been a busy start to the season in the Cariboo Fire Centre as crews have already responded to 39 wildfires. All of them have been human-caused.

Good work, firefighting crews.
Let’s hope that from now on, human caused wildfires are in the minority.
I know that is asking a lot.
To paraphrase Wendell Phillips 1811-1884:

“Eternal vigilance is the price of” -a fire free forest-

Means think before you burn that grass or slash, or toss your cigarette.
metalman.

metalman, I agree with you in hoping that human caused wildfires are in the minority!

Unfortunately earlier today near Ferry and Westwood, I pulled up behind a young lady as she stopped at the red light in her new little Chevy something-or-other, proudly displaying her “N”. Big puff of smoke comes out of the driver’s side window as she took her last big puff before tossing her cigarette out the window onto the street!

Obviously we are still allowing stupid people to breed!
