Any recommendations for a quiet park (not that many people) not too far outside the city where you can go and meditate? Also if it doesn’t have bears/cougars thats a plus, or will they leave you alone if you’re sitting quietly by a tree?

My personal favorite park is Eskers provincial, just past Ness Lake.
It has a marvelous parking/Day use area with a covered picnic shelter and groomed and graveled walking paths and various look outs along the marsh.
If you hike the four (4) kilometers to the non-groomed trail, their is an awesome bench on top of the ridge over looking a long lake.
If you continue for the entire eight (8) kilometers, you get to Kathy lake. Very few make that jaunt, so it should provide the peace, tranquility, and solitude desired for a good meditation.

So what think of the Premier new salary ..her top-off of 50,000 dollars!
Does this top-off meet the minimum wage guidelines?
Did she file income tax on this extra amount of dollars?
And who paid 25,000 dollars in Prince George to hobknob with her?

So, OM1, you would probably be the first one to complain that the “Premier is involved in partisan politics at Taxpayer expense!”
Now we know that she can work ‘for others’ in her spare time!
What top off, what guidelines?
That decision and concern rests with the BC Liberal Party.
Yes, you have something to complain about IF you would be a contributor to, or a member of, the BC Liberal Party.
No, I am not a member of the BC Liberal Party so I am not too interested in bellyaching about their party operations.

Walking through Spruceland parking lot this morning I was hit by a vehicle more specifically a woman who was on her cell phone and driving I had seen the vehicle some distance away as it was cutting through the empty parking stalls then it turned down one of the lanes as many drivers do.
Shortly there after as I was walking through an empty parking stall I was confronted by the vehicle as by now I could see it was a female driver who was on a cell yapping away and not paying attention I stopped where I thought was safe but she suddenly turned the wheel and her front end was pointed at me and I had to boogey to get out of her way but her front bumper still caught me and that is when she noticed me finally.
I was ok but very angry I slammed my fist on her hood and said some very interesting words to her through her partly open window to which she sped away not sure to where but it was away from me.
No I didn’t get her license but I am assuming she won’t forget me for awhile
I am assuming a certain amount of posters here drive and use their cell phones and I doubt most of you will ever put it down but do the rest of the world a favour don’t drive while talking

Well its another Friday Free for All and I’ll bet that bad drivers will be the topic . Well let me start by giving you some big city tips on safe driving in the great city of Prince George.
1. No1; The first item on the list is have your City fire the firm doing the maintenance on your traffic signals . Hey don’t have a clue when it comes to traffic control.
No 2; The timings are far to short to allow traffic to clear the intersection.
I remember waiting on the By Pass wanting to make a right hand turn onto 22nd Avenue it took two lights to clear 10 vehicle through the intersection. All the vehicles were in the right hand lane. So you also need to change your driving habits. Some of you have confused city driving with that of traffic on a four lane highway where the speed is 100 kms.
No 3; Scrap the cameras that control the traffic lights and use loops in the pavement to do actual traffic counts. This will allow traffic to clear the intersection for the light to change.
So I will leave you with these thoughts. If you need further info feel free to ask. I did maintains on traffic signals in Burnaby at exotic locations like Willingdon and Canada Way and later in Prince George for a number of years.
Cheers

Since we are on the topic of drivers…. here is my 2 cents!
I am patiently waiting to hear the crash bang of the vehicles that enter the wrong way of the traffic circle to get into Eastway Esso because they are just to lazy to go 3/4 the way around. So stupid and a 100% preventable accident. Even the fuel truck they use does it. Maybe not the greatest place for a traffic circle, however it is there.
Also… if you see a L on the back of a vehicle have some freaking respect & patience for those that are LEARNING to drive please.
Happy Friday!! :)

Well, its been CONFIRMED (AGAIN!), the previous Conservative Government left a surplus.
The Liberal government’s own report says that the Conservative government left them not only a balanced budget, but also a surplus.
First the Parliamentary Budget Officer and now the Fiscal Monitor! The Fiscal Monitor, a publication of the Department of Finance has now confirmed that the cumulative surplus for the 2015-16 fiscal year was $7.5 billion.
Liberal Finance Minister Bill Morneau has insisted for many months that there’s a Conservative deficit. This report shows – yet again – he is wrong. The Liberals are trying to justify their out-of-control spending on a deficit that did not exist.
Which means they’re spending even more than we thought!
The Conservatives left a surplus. The report proves it.
Despite this, the Liberals are charging up the taxpayer funded credit card with a mountain of debt.
Justin’s Liberals need to accept facts: they were left a surplus, and they are going into deficit to pay for their wild election promises.
As I pay my income taxes today, I want to advise everyone to keep your hands on your wallets! Can’t trust Justin!
Posted on Friday, April 29, 2016 @ 1:24 PM by ski51 with a score of 0
While I generally agree with you, it needs to be clear that a surplus only means that in the last year of power they took in 7.5 billion more than they paid out. But it’s not sitting in a vault somewhere, it would have gone to already outstanding debt.
Trudeau – has made the decision to spend more than he takes in.
Some of his deficit spending is for structural improvements that benefits future generations – borrowing makes sense. It’s like taking out a mortgage for a house.
Some of it is just like throwing bread into the crowd to keep the masses happy, and it will be paid back by a future generation. It’s like going to Earls on your credit card.

“Here’s an interesting Opinion piece from the Vancouver Sun, yesterday:
Opinion: Math curriculum gets failing grade
There are three constants in our lives: death, taxes, and consultants trying to reinvent the proverbial wheel. When it comes to education, no subject receives more edubabble and scrutiny than arithmetic. Educationists (i.e. those who profit from running the education system) have seen this latest subject matter as a veritable gold mine.
“Math specialists” and “experts” are in full swing, running professional development workshops across the province, preparing our teachers for the weakest math curricula this province has ever seen. Parent conferences, sponsored by PAC groups, are being held to inform parents on how and why open-ended problem solving and explaining your answer through convoluted strategies trumps any conventional wisdom and evidence behind effective math instruction. Conferences sponsor guest speakers who are anxious to sell their new books and consultations based on the latest edubabble, promoting opinions such as how memorization harms children, and gleefully chant how “drills kill” in the classroom. There are also notices now being advertised in some schools on how to counter those who are resistant to change. All of this is occurring while the BCEd plan rolls out across the province, under the direction of the Ministry of Education.
It’s monstrous, and devastating to those families, and to our frontline teachers, to perpetually sell them damaging, unproven strategies that are little more than opinion and experiments on our children. Math performance in B.C. is failing, yet educationists prefer to spend time fiddling while Rome burns.”
And more….
“We know what works, and so do the professional mathematicians. So in a time where every penny of education funding is necessary, why are we wasting precious energy and money on strategies that continue to fail our children? The WISE Math initiative is trying to affect real change and bring common sense forward to the classroom. It’s time the so-called experts did the same.”
Exactly!
You can read the entire opinion piece at the following:

Educationists (i.e. those who profit from running the education system)
An interesting and biased definition from the very start of the diatribe which one can expect to follow.
A more neutral definition of the word educationist or educationalist would be “a person who has special knowledge of the principles and methods of teaching.”
Continuing with that line of definitions, one could define journalists as those who profit from running the media.
Or how about publicists as those who profit from publishing written material.
But I think the most appropriate definition is that of opinionist from Merriam Webster’s premium unabridged dictionary – one who holds an unusual or heretical belief or opinion.

gopg2015, I read that opinion piece and found it interesting and a bit thought provoking. It made me wonder if this “new” math that is being taught is actually doing any good and is it in fact worth teaching!
I had hoped that it might spark an intelligent debate on the pros and cons of it After all, if our math curriculum really is getting a failing grade, shouldn’t we be concerned?
Unfortunately, my post didn’t elicit the intelligent debate that I thought that it might! Perhaps all of the “experts” here were too busy googling another subject?
Posted on Friday, April 29, 2016 @ 10:56 PM by gopg2015 with a score of 0
Hart Guy … “new” math was around when I was in high school in the 1960’s in Ontario. I was interested in discussing it at the time but have lost my interest a long time ago when I started to understand that our society moves through the decades and centuries through a constant renewal process. During that process there are some hits and some misses. While one goes through those, there are differences of opinions of what is a potential hit and what is a potential miss.
It makes for interesting discussion around a coffee table, but a very difficult discussion on the internet with little body language to observe and a lot of typing required when we have audio visual communication, even over the internet, which is far superior.
Talk about renewal!!!! This methodology of hooking onto the social media is becoming the stupidest thing we are engaging ourselves in.
My concerns about new math started to be diminished when I began to notice that counting change back at a cash register became a lost skill around the 1970s. At about the same time I no longer cared about chump change and simply went with the flow. My kids are well educated. One has a PhD and the other has a successful business that has survived for 17 years and keeps people in the community employed. Whatever “new” math version I went through and whatever new math they went through worked.
It is time for me to be concerned about my more age appropriate community. I trust that they will take care of their age appropriate community quite well.

Let democracy prevail!
I absolutely agree with Palopu’s comments following – thanks for that.
“And who paid 25,000 dollars in Prince George to hobknob with her?”
Anyone that hopes to gain by buying a politician.
The Premiers top up of $50,000.00 is paid to her by the Liberal Party. This is in addition to her salary as the Premier of the Province for which she gets $192,000.00 per year.
All income in Canada is taxable income.
Must be a list of donors to these types of functions somewhere.
No no Palopu, it’s all REPORTED income that is taxable. That’s where KPMG comes in to make sure some of it disappears.
All income in Canada is taxable income.?????? What a babe in the woods . You really need to talk to a good investment/tax advisor . Choose a fee based advisor and not tnl@tb.
It is all ultimately taxable income, Ataloss. At some point there has been tax paid on it if it is income.
not so !
So I guess you keep your mouth tightly shut when you have passengers in your car and you are driving. You must be a barrel o’ fun on long drives.
Hey, he is the one that stated that you shouldn’t talk and drive. I just wanted to confirm he actually abides at all times with the ridiculous requirement that he is demanding from others. It doesn”t mean I’m condoning someone yapping on a cell phone while driving in an area where they can easily stop.
Dearth, well done! You coulda done more but you didn’t. Hope she learns.
why are the comments closed for the Keith Urban post? are they normally closed after only one day? just wanted to say that the tickets are no more expensive than what it was for Elton John, Kiss etc. we are very lucky to get alot of top notch entertainers here keep up the good work!
The comment section is closed after 24 hours . Who is Keith urban ? Must be bluegrass or country or western .
Who is Elton John???
Ever heard of a search engine??
Put Keith Urban into a YouTube search and you can listen for yourself
Ataloss.
All income is taxable after all the appropriate deductions etc;.
Give me an instance where you can earn money in Canada and not pay any taxes on it. Otherwise go back to sleep.
“Give me an instance where you can earn money in Canada and not pay any taxes on it. Otherwise go back to sleep..”
Off the top of my head all i can think of is capital gains and dividends up to your limit in a TFSA..If the left wing nut bars in this country had their way you would get taxed 100%.
Or Cirque du Soliel and many other Canadian business’s and private persons that use offshore tax shelters.
What a babe in the woods you are . I could give you several examples of tax avoidance but why would I ? I just told you how to find out . Fee based investment/tax advisor .
Just another day of Ataloss spewing crap and then saying “you figure it out” when questioned on it. Yawn.
Hows that imaginary solar power system doing? Are you charging your imaginary electric car off it yet?
I did not say find out for yourself . I pointed Pal in the correct direction . Either of us have any knowledge of pals portfolio so as to give (free) advise . If he has under 150K to work with then he’ll have to DIY it . The best advise is never free but it can be dirt cheap . For example . Buy a copy of Garth Turner’s Money Road and read his blog greaterfool.ca . That advise changed my lifestyle in a very positive way . If you think the comment section here is goofy . Garth’s is sometimes completely off the wall .
Palopu earlier states; ” All income in Canada is taxable income.” The he goes on to state; ” Give me an instance where you can earn money in Canada and not pay any taxes on it.”
How about 25 examples of rich Canadians avoiding paying taxes through the use of off-shore tax havens? Yup if you are rich, or a corporation making profits in Canada, just ship that money into those tax havens. Paying tax only applies to us middle income and poor people.
www .cbc.ca/news/business/kpmg-tax-sham-used-by-at-least-25-wealthy-canadians-document-says-1.3249468
That last isn’t the best example because the CRA did catch up to those people. Of course then the CRA offerred a shady deal to them because, well, upper crust. And we know the upper crust in this country are privileged to get away with crimes that would get the rest of us jailed.
Ataloss was talking about the imaginary income from his imaginary solar system.
Why would you have to pay taxes on a barrel of cash or slush fund? Coffee money? If someone gives you a $100 to wash their car do you claim it?
technically you are supposed to.
When you have the premier asking for $25000 in donations to sit with her at at the table to hobnob you have corruption at the highest level. When this happens you have taken away the ability to make a sound political decision.
“sound political decision”
an oxymoron??!!!
open secret …. found missing….
Cheers
Retired 02, obviously you still haven’t read the ICBC accident statistics that I posted weeks ago for your benefit! When it comes to accident statistics, Abbotsford has nothing to write home about!
The very last thing that we need from you is “some big city tips on safe driving in the great city of Prince George”!
Cheers!
What does the City of Abbotsford have to do with the information that I have provided.?
I’m well aware of the stats that ICBC has on traffic accidents.
What is more obvious to me is that all hart guy can come with is no brainer ideas. Please keep them to yourself. You are atypical “bush Bunny”.
Cheers
Wow Retired. So nice of you to be kind to Hart Guy
a·typ·i·cal
ˌāˈtipək(ə)l/

not representative of a type, group, or class
That’s what you meant – right. He’s not like the typical “bush bunny”?
Retired I will be in Abby tomorrow for a couple of days, creepy heh.
If you are not learning to drive and have an L on your car remove it. Although many of the drivers on our roads are still learning to drive even after many years of trying.
I had a young girl turn left at the traffic circle as I was exiting the Cameron St bridge the other day!! Um, that’s not how you do traffic circles, young lady. The trucker behind her, just put his hands in the air with a HUH! look on his face. Me- I was muttering under my breath, and it wasn’t polite.
It’s time for a crow cull in this city.
It’s like going to Earls on your credit card.
ski51, so far there has been a few billion in infrastructure spending in places outside of Canada! That’s like taking out a mortgage on your neighbour’s house!
Well its confirmed that Harper was a jerk and is no longer the Prime Minister.
Cheers
Retired 02, does the phrase “takes one to know one” mean anything to you, haha!
Cheers!
Just the very definition of the party names is a tell all. They are now very Liberal with our money (and future money) while the last government was trying to be Conservative with the taxpayers money.
Definition of Conservative = Controlling Tightwad
Choose your poison. I’d rather spend the cash. Can’t take it with you.
“…the last government was trying to be Conservative with the taxpayers money.”
Are you serious? Adding 169 billion (with a B, not M) to the national debt fits the definition of being conservative???
HG, I noticed your total silence about Duffy being exonerated and re-instated to the Senate. Here you are saying “Can’t trust Justin!” and yet you always confessed complete trust in the one who occupied the highest office before.
I don’t like Duffy, never have, never will!
While a part of me would have liked to have seen him spend a bit of time at the crowbar hotel, another part of me thinks that perhaps the judgement was correct.
If anything, rules need to be more specifically clear and laid out. Removing any ambiguity and the opportunity to interpret rules to suit oneself need to be addressed and the sooner the better. Duffy certainly wasn’t the only person to use, or abuse the system!
Still, part of me would have liked to have seen him in the clink, haha!
I like Duffy ! He’s perfect . A Tory shill with a Tory knife scar in his back . Sitting hopefully for years in the house of sober second thought . He will see treachery coming from all sides now . Hopefully he will put his loyalty in our country . The country that exonerated him .

Your line of debate can continue with scientists continuing the climate change scam for profit and fame.
I could have, and if you understood what I was writing you would know that it would be just as biased and unfounded.
Well I would say you are the one lacking in understanding.
gopg2015, I read that opinion piece and found it interesting and a bit thought provoking.
Friday funny.
Bob Nehart quote:
“I don’t like country music, but I don’t mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means ‘put down”
That was redneck hilarious! Well Done!
Bob Newhart?
Oh man , thanks . I laughed tears into my eyes . Good old Bob . I can still see the ginormous dust bunny on the front steps .
