Wilson Square Community Market Opens New Location

Saturday, April 30, 2016 @ 9:56 AM

Prince George, B.C. – “Keep calm and market on.”

The words of Maria Pennock, president of the Wilson Square Community Market, as she helped cut the ribbon on a new market season and a new location at Pine Centre Mall (beside the BC Government Liquor Store) this morning.

The move was announced last month after members of the association remained uninterested in joining with the Prince George Farmers Market Association to operate under the City’s public market concept proposed for the Sixth Avenue-Seventh Avenue-Veterans Plaza area.

“I’m really, really excited. We have 28-30 vendors now but we’re expecting to have up to 60 by the time the season gets going. Each weekend we’ll build.”

She’s thrilled with the location. “Isn’t this a prime spot? I think we’re bringing a market to where there’s already a lot of people and I think it’s going to turn out really well.”

Yvonna Breed, owner of Marlinspike Gardens, is one of the vendors who made the move from the Prince George Courthouse. She’s also feeling optimistic.

“I think it’s going to be very awesome simply because of the traffic and it’s a new thing, I don’t know if there’s other markets that are part of malls in B.C. but I know they are around the world. We’ll see how it turns out.”

The Market will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Saturday through October 8th.

Great location, lots of people, lots of parking, great bannock!

I think one market down town and one at Pine Center is a good idea.

Its been a long term tradition being at Wilson Square. Will be missed there.
