Red Cross to Start Distributing Cash to Evacuees

Prince George, B.C.- The Canadian Red Cross has announced it will immediately start electronic transfers of cash to Ft. McMurray evacuees.
The Red Cross received $67 million dollars in donations from people across the country to assist those forced from the community by the flames and will distribute $50 million of that total.
The Red Cross will allot $600 dollars per adult and $300 per child.
The money is to be distributed within the next one to 2 days.
The $67 million is only the amount donated directly to the Red Cross. There are still matching funds from the Federal and Provincial Governments to be added to the overall total.

I don’t understand.. Such a huge amount was collected just specifically for this cause. When the other two Gov’ts kick their share in, what will happen to that money??
Thats a really good question. So where is the $17 million going. And then there is the Federal and BC portion to come! What really amazes me is that 90% of the village is still standing. According to the media it sounded like the entire City was a goner.
Cheers
Bear in mind the Red cross is 33,000 in the USA. Also unionized.
the total money collected should be paid out to the people of Ft Mac. I thought I just read something here lately that said that each adult would receive over $1000 each and that it would be $600/child or did I read that wrong?
50 million divided by 80,000 is $600. from the Red Cross, AB government is spending 100 million and giving debit cards of $1250. Red Cross will probably give more when the feds match the donations
Not sure what Union has to do with this, but hope they are totally accountable for all the funds they received and will receive from Feds and Province. After all it was not to build a bank account but to help all those in need, will be watching.
My spouse and I used to donate regularly to the Red Cross but after finding out the the CEO gets close to $500,000 salary and other officials are very well paid, we decided to donate to local charities. And now our tax dollars are being paid to the Red Cross by the Federal govt. to use it in anyway they wish along with paying their executives exorbitant salaries.
I would have rather seen the Federal Govt send the matching dollars directly to the organizations that need it in Fort Mac.
Which way will make the Liberals more political hay????
Red Cross = Big Business = big overhead
metalman.
I stopped giving at the stores when I found out the stores were getting a tax write off from the donated money.
Hope The feds are smart and give their donation to the City of Ft Mac so that they can use it to rebuild houses and infrastructure
No Fire Insurance on the House ,no Car Insurance, not a Penny in the Bank and making good Wages, are we not in good times to put a few Bucks away for a rainy Day or even a Disaster like this, is everyone maxed out on Payments ,Visa and Overdraft ?
We used to give to the Red Cross, not any more , Month after Month more Mail from them
,please give more to this or that Cause . Now we give locally and I can see where the Help goes!
