PG School District Receives $2.1 million in Provincial Funding
Prince George, B.C. – Two schools in the Prince George School District will receive some major touch ups thanks to the provincial government.
The district will receive $2.1 million to pay for upgrades at Nusdeh Yoh Elementary School and at Mackenzie Secondary School.
The money is part of $45 million being distributed to school’s province-wide and was announced today by Education Minister Mike Bernier.
“Today’s announcement is really about the future of the province and it’s about the students. It’s about investing in the future of our students.”
The funds were granted under the School Enhancement Program – or as Bernier calls it, “the fix-it-fund.”
Districts applied to the ministry this spring and successful projects were chosen based on need, priority and supporting student learning. Another requirement was that projects had to cost more than $100,000.
Nusdeh Yoh Elementary in Prince George will see the biggest benefit locally, receiving $1.9 million from Victoria for the replacement of boiler and thermal heating systems.
The project moving forward at Mackenzie Secondary School is for the replacement of an outdated dust collection system with the Province contributing $206,600.
School District 57 is providing $25,000 to both schools for the projects.
“This is happening because of the strong economy that we have in the Province of British Columbia,” said Bernier. “We have opportunities of making investments like this.”

Smells like an election coming..
It is so nice of Bernier to tell the reason this money was available is because BC has such a strong economy. The only thing that is strong is the smell of an election.
